No role in Mahadayi bandh; will support the cause: CM

Bengaluru, Jan 24: Denying the Bharatiya Janata Party’s charge that he is behind the proposed Karnataka bandh over the Mahadayi issue, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that he only support the cause of Kannadigas.

Responding to BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa’s charge, Mr. Siddaramaiah said the bandh had been called by Kannada groups and farmers’ organisations. “Actually it will be a problem for the government as it has to close schools and stop buses,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Yeddyurappa had said that even the protests outside the BJP’s office were “Congress-inspired”.

Referring to the Karnataka bandh called on January 25, coinciding with the BJP’s Parivarthana Yatra rally in Mysuru which is to be attended by the party’s national president Amit Shah, Mr. Siddaramaiah said the BJP was worried about poor turnout at the rally. He said the party leaders were embarrassed by the empty chairs during the previous rally attended by Mr. Shah in Bengaluru and were worried of a repeat in Mysuru.

He also dismissed the BJP charge that the government had ordered withdrawal of buses on Thursday to prevent crowds from gathering for the BJP rally. “The KSRTC may be planning to not ply buses in order to prevent their damage during the bandh. I don’t have such a petty mindset [to orchestrate it],” the CM said.

Meanwhile, the Congress said it supported the call for bandh demanding Modi's intervention to resolve the Mahadayi river water sharing dispute.

"Everybody must support the bandh call given by farmer groups and pro-Kannada organisations seeking Modi's intervention," Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee working president Dinesh Gundu Rao told reporters in Bengaluru.

Other states BJP MLAs can degrade Kannadigas. If CM stands for Kannadigas that will be big issue for Yeddy.

Bengaluru, Feb 14: After the swearing-in of ten former JDS and Congress MLAs, political boundaries seem to have become more fluid, with little clarity on who is on whose side. When Honnali BJP MLA Renukacharya visited senior Congressman DK Shivakumar at the latter’s residence, many eyebrows were raised over the reason behind the meeting. There was speculation over why Renukacharya would be meeting a man who is, in all likelihood, slated to be the next KPCC president.

Renukacharya reacted to the rumours by making the meet sound purely professional. He said, “We have a three-day Krushi Sammlan in Honnali, and I went to invite him (DKS) for it.’’   Shivakumar also remained tight-lipped over the real reason behind the meeting, and corroborated Renukacharya’s story. However, insiders claim that the two discussed other issues too. It may be recalled that Renukacharya had openly rebelled against Yediyurappa in 2009.

Mysuru, Jul 19: Residents in the vicinity of the Chamundeshwari temple alleged VVIP racism against the administration for allowing BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje for a special visit there on Friday.

Even though the district collector had ordered the closure of temple visits due to the COVID pandemic, an exception was made for VVIPs.
The BJP leader claimed that she visited the temple on Thursday evening but the temple officials confirmed that she visited the temple on Friday at 7 am. It is her routine every year to visit the temple on the last Friday of Ashada Masa.

Locals, who tried get darshan of Chamundi Devi, were barred by the police leading to an altercation between locals and cops at the entrance to the temple.

Ashada Masa is considered an auspicious occasion and it is a belief among politicians that for the longevity of their political career, they need to visit Chamundeshwari temple every last Friday of Ashada Masa.
