Shivamogga, May 17: Without the benefit of tuitions or guides, a boy from industrial town Bhadravathi in Shivamogga district on Monday produced a scorecard every student - and teacher - is proud of: a 100% score. With 625 out of 625 marks, Ranjan BS has become the first student to score cent percent in the SSLC examinations conducted by the Karnataka State Secondary Examination Board.

Ranjan's joy knew no bounds when he checked the result on the web around 3pm. The student from Poornapragna Higher Secondary School, Bhadravathi New Town, had scored 100% in all subjects. Bhadravathi - home to a paper mill and an iron-and-steel factory - is 270 km west of Bengaluru.

Ranjan worked hard to get a good score. His target, he says, was 600 marks. "I studied one subject for six hours daily. I studied till I was thorough in every aspect of all the chapters. I didn't go for tuitions or refer to guides. I solved question papers of previous years, so it supplemented what I studied," he said.

Once he had written the exams, there was no postmortem. "All my friends would discuss the question papers. I never did that. I thought I may have made some mistakes, but realized there was no point in talking about it after I had walked out of the examination hall."

He has a piece of advice for students: have a positive attitude before writing exams. "My achievement has given me a push to achieve excellence in medicine. I was expecting around 600 marks. But scoring cent per cent has given me a sense of fulfilment. It is due to the support given by my parents and school teachers," Ranjan said.

Son of TS Shankara Narayana, a tiles merchant, and SN Triveni, a homemaker, Ranjan studied at Poornapragna Higher Secondary School from LKG to class X. A favourite of all his teachers, he was praised for his interest level, skill in grasping and commitment to achieve excellence. His teachers said he always stood first in the class.

"We never forced him to study extra during exam time," his father said. Ranjan's friends presented him a statuette of former President APJ Abdul Kalam.

Bengaluru, Jan 21: A massive protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and National Population Register (NPR) was witnessed at Shivajinagar's Chandni Chowk area on Tuesday.

Scores of people came together carrying national flags and placards to register their protest in the city.

Speaking to ANI, a protester said, "People of all religious community have assembled here in Chandni Chowk to protest against CAA, NRC, and NPR. We the people of India are against this law."

Terming the law as anti-constitutional, he said that we support all the states who oppose the CAA. We demand the revocation of CAA and the government should remove conditions in NPR which lead to NRC.

CAA grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist and Christian communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

Unfortunately Hitler brother is our HM who is deaf, dumb and blind.   He has shit in his brain.   He is unfit to be called as human being.  He is thinking that he has no death.   I am sure that he will meet a miserable end.

Bengaluru, Jul 1: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief DK Shivakumar on Wednesday said that the state Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa should apologise to the nation for the Ballari incident.

"It is shocking to see the Ballari incident. The way the dead bodies of the corona victims have been treated is very unfortunate. The entire country witnessed it. I request the Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to apologise to the nation. India is known for its values and traditions," Shivakumar told reporters here.

Earlier, Shivakumar had posted a video which allegedly showed officials 'inhumanly' dumping bodies of those patients who die of COVID into a pit in Ballari, the district administration confirmed it and said that the entire field team involved in the incident has been disbanded.

"It's disturbing to see bodies of COVID patients who have died being dumped inhumanly into a pit in Ballari. Is this civility? This is a reflection of how the government has handled this Corona crisis. I urge the govt to take immediate action and ensure that this doesn't happen again," Shivakumar's tweet, which also had a video of the incident embedded, read.

The Deputy Commissioner, Ballari issued a press note which stated that it had conducted an enquiry after the video surfaced and it was found that the video belonged to the district and "comprises of burial of eight people who passed away after succumbing to COVID-19."

Although, according to the DC, all protocols and SOPs were followed by the team during the burial process, however, the "disrespectful handling of the bodies while being lowered on to the ground by the field staff" led to the entire field team involved being disbanded and will be replaced by a new team trained by the HOD, Forensic, VIMS.

The district administration also issued an unconditional apology to the families of the deceased and to others who were hurt by the incident.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa also termed the behaviour of the staff "very inhuman and very painful" and urged the staff to tread cautiously with humanity in handling the funeral of those affected by the disease, and added, "Let's walk with humanity, and realize that there is no greater religion than humanity."

Bengaluru, Jul 2: Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that the "RSS needs to be defeated to save the country" and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are "destroying the nation".

Kharge was speaking at a KPCC program where DK Shivakumar took charge as state Congress president.

He said that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister are not ready to take accountability for any issues including China, and are instead blaming Rajiv Gandhi Foundation of getting funds from China.

"Rajiv Gandhi foundation utilized funds for the development of the nation and for the betterment of the downtrodden people," Kharge said.

"Prime Minister Modi and Shah both are destroying the economy of the nation, and their policies and plans are the reason for increasing COVID-19 situation in India," he said.

"Prime Minister and Amit Shah never listen to Opposition parties, instead they plan something and their policies are the reason for MSME losses and job losses in the country," he added.
