Non-subsidised LPG rate cut by Rs 5; ATF to cost more

New Delhi, May 1: Price of non-subsidised LPG was today cut by Rs 5 per cylinder even as jet fuel (ATF) rates were marginally raised in step with global trend.

LPG rateThe price of non-subsidised or market-priced domestic cooking gas (LPG) was cut by Rs 5 to Rs 616 per 14.2-kg cylinder in Delhi, state-owned fuel retailers said.

The reduction comes on the back of two successive hikes - Rs 5 on March 1 and Rs 11 on April 1.

Households are entitled to 12 cylinders of 14.2-kg each at subsidised rate of Rs 417 in Delhi. Any requirement beyond this has to be bought at the market price, which is now Rs 616 in Delhi.

In Mumbai, non-subsidised cooking gas has been cut by Rs 4.50 to Rs 627.50, while it will cost Rs 649 in Kolkata as against Rs 654.50, previously. Chennai will see a price cut of Rs 5.50 to Rs 608.50 per cylinder.

Rates vary from state-to-state depending on the incidence of local sales tax or VAT.Oil companies raised price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF), or jet fuel, in Delhi by Rs 272 per kilolitre or 0.5 per cent to Rs 49,609.84 per kl.

The increase comes on the back of a 2 per cent reduction in rates last year.Jet fuel constitutes over 40 per cent of an airline's operating costs and the price cut will reduce the financial burden on cash-strapped carriers.

No immediate comment was available from airlines on the impact of the price hike on passenger fares.

State-owned fuel retailers, Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) revise jet fuel and non-subsidised LPG prices on the first of every month based on average imported cost and rupee-dollar exchange rate. The same on petrol and diesel is done on a fortnightly basis.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 24: Kerala on Tuesday was among those honoured for tackling the Covid-19 pandemic when the United Nations celebrated the Public Service Day.

The function, held on a virtual platform, saw the participation of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and other top UN dignitaries who applauded all the leaders which included state Health Minister K.K. Shailaja for effectively tackling Covid-19.

Speaking on the occasion, Shailaja noted that the experiences of tackling Nipah virus and the two floods - 2018 and 2019 - where the health sector played a crucial role, all helped in tackling Covid-19 timely.

"Right from the time when Covid cases got reported in Wuhan, Kerala got into the track of the WHO and followed every standard operating protocols and international norms and hence, we have been able to keep the contact spread rate to below 12.5 per cent and the mortality rate to 0.6 per cent," she said.

Mar 11: Thirteen of the 22 rebel MLAs in Madhya Pradesh have given an assurance that "they are not leaving the Congress", senior party leader Digvijaya Singh said on Thursday while expressing confidence that the Kamal Nath-led government in the state will win a floor test.

"We are not keeping quiet. We are not sleeping," Singh told PTI, a day after Congress leader from the state Jyotiraditya Scindia quit the Congress and 22 MLAs submitted their resignations from the assembly in Madhya Pradesh.

Scindia was offered the post of Madhya Pradesh deputy chief minister but wanted his nominee, Singh said. However, Kamal Nath refused to accept a "chela", he said.

Scindia, he said, could have been a Congress nominee to the Rajya Sabha but "only Modi-Shah" can give a Cabinet post to the "over-ambitious" leader.

New Delhi, May 17: With the highest-ever spike of close to 5,000 cases in the past 24 hours, the COVID-19 count in India has crossed 90,000 on Sunday.

With an increase of 4,987 COVID-19 cases being reported in the last 24 hours, the count has reached 90,927, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total number of active cases in the country stands at 53,946 today, while 2,872 deaths have been recorded due to the infection so far, with one patient having migrated. 120 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

However, on the positive side, close to 4,000 patients have also been cured and discharged in the past 24 hours, taking the tally of cured patients to 34,108.

With 30,706 confirmed cases, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected by the infection in the country.

It is followed by Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, with 10,988 and 10,585 cases, respectively.
The national capital, with 9,333 cases, is also one of the regions which is badly affected by the infection.
