Not keen on separate state flag, CM tells Cong high command

New Delhi, Jul 20: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday clarified to the Congress top brass that the state government has not taken any concrete decision to have a separate flag for the state.siddaramaiah1

“The chief minister clarified that the state government has just formed a committee to study the legalities of having a separate flag following requests from some pro-Kannada activists. We have not taken any decision and the panel will have to first submit its report,” Siddaramaiah has told the party high command.

K C Venugopal, AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, who had sought an explanation from the chief minister, confirmed to DH the receipt of the clarification. The party was worried over the possible impact of the row with the Opposition alleging that the government is encouraging mindset of separatists.

Venugopal said that the BJP was unnecessarily creating a controversy even after the chief minister clarified that the state had no intention to lower the dignity of the national flag by having separate flag for the state. “The BJP is unnecessarily creating a row and there is no need to jump the gun,” he said.

Mysuru, Mar 8: The 'Shuka Vana' (Parrots Museum), in the sprawling Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Ashrama here, will remain closed for 15 days from March 9 as a precautionary measure following COVID-19, Ashram authorities said here on Sunday.

Ashram authorities told UNI that the Museum will be closed due to threat of spread of Coronavirus. This is for the first time that the Museum has been closed for such a long time earlier it had closed for one or two days due to bird flu. The decision has been taken following the tourists and devotees including foreigners are arriving to Ashram in large numbers.

The ashram authorities have also closed famous The Kishkinda Moolika Bonsai garden on-premises for same reason.

Bengaluru, Apr 9:  Ministers and members of Legislature in Karnataka will take a 30 per cent cut each in their salaries and allowances to fund the fight against coronavirus in the state, for a year.

An ordinance to reduce the salaries of ministers and legislators by 30 per cent for one year to meet the exigencies arising out of COVID-19 pandemic was approved by the state cabinet headed by chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Thursday.

"... we have cut by 30 per cent salaries and allowances of all ministers, MLAs, MLCs, also speaker, deputy speaker, chief whip every one for one year from April 1, amounting to Rs 15.36 crore," Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister J C Madhuswamy said.

Speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, he said, "we have the consent from all the political parties for this, so we have passed the ordinance today."

The Union Cabinet on Monday had approved a 30 per cent cut in salaries of all Members of Parliament and a two-year suspension of the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme.

Bengaluru,  Apr 30: As many as 30 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Karnataka from April 29, 5:00 pm to April 30, 5:00 pm, taking the total number of cases to 565, informed the State Health Department on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,718 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 33,050 in the country.

A total of 630 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, as per the latest data provided by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
