Bengaluru, Feb 20: With the issue of assault on youth by Congress MLA N A Haris’ son Mohammed Nalapad at Farzi Café in Bengaluru’s UB City taking a political turn, the names of several other VIPs who either involved in the brawl or became mute spectators have come to light.

According to reliable sources, the son of a former BJP Minister from north Karnataka, son of Bengaluru Central BJP MP P C Mohan, son of a State Cabinet Minister from Old Mysuru region; a city councillor, who is the son of another MLA from the city; children of two noted Kannada actors, of whom one even became a Minister were all present at the cafe when the incident happened on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Nalapad’s lawyer has alleged the complaint was “selectively registered” against a few people, including his client, while the sons of other bigwigs were let off. He claimed that P C Mohan also involved in the clash.

Mohan has admitted that his son was present in the café when the incident took place. However, he said that he wasn’t part of the assault.

“My son had no links to Nalapad or the boy who was attacked. Nalapad’s lawyer is trying to tarnish the reputation of many families by dragging the names of several people,” he said, while adding, there were several others at the cafe, but singling out his son was politically-motivated.

Chandragupta, DCP (Central), said they had seized the CCTV footage at Farzi Cafe that had showed the incident. “We are yet to go into the witnesses accounts to the incident. We will call them and record their statements in the case eventually,” he said.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: Congress MLA Priyank Kharge has questioned the Karnataka government on the alleged breakdown of oxygen in the intensive care unit (ICU) at ESIC hospital in Kalaburagi, saying he had got complaints that eight persons who were on ventilators had died.

He asked the government if it is "deliberately" hiding something about the patients that were admitted in ESIC.

"I have got complaints that eight people who were on ventilators are dead in ESIC Kalaburagi because there was oxygen breakdown in ICU. ESIC has not been admitting patients as the issue has not been resolved. Nobody is confirming or denying it. Is the Government deliberately hiding something?" he asked.
Kharge also accused the government of not having adequate facilities to combat COVID-19 in different parts of the state.

"I hope I am wrong, but if it is a fact, this ascertains that the administration has lost control over Corona pandemic in the district. No addition testing centre. No beds are available. PPE Kits and medical waste is thrown in Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS)," he added.

According to the Union Health Ministry, there are 67420 COVID-19 cases in the state.

Mangaluru, Jul 31: Muslims across coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada today observed Eid al Adha following the safety guidelines issued by the government amidst covid-19 pandemic.

While coastal Karnataka is celebrating the festival of sacrifice today, it will be observed in other parts of Karnataka and country tomorrow.

Congregational Eid prayers were held in many mosques while ensuring physical distancing norms. Only 50 devotees were allowed in mosques. Children below 10 years of age and elders above 60 years of age weren’t allowed.

Eidgahs in the region wore a deserted look as the government has temporarily prohibited prayers in the open grounds. The Eidgah at Lighthouse Hill in Mangaluru, which usually witnessed huge crowd during Eid celebrations, was also closed this time.

As expected, the celebration this time was a low key thanks to the restrictions placed in tune with the threat of coronavirus infection.

Prayers were held in Kudroli’s Nadupalli and Bundar’s Zeenat Bakhsh Central mosque. All those who entered mosque were wearing masks.

In Udupi city, Eid prayers were held at Jamia Masjid and other mosques with limited number of devotees. In Bhatkal took some of the mosques hosted Eid prayers with all precautionary measures.
