Newsroom, Aug 28: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dinesh Gundu Rao has candidly admitted that his party is not in a position to fight the Bharatiya Janata Party singlehandedly in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls as the latter has too much money.

Responding to a query at a press conference in Dharwad yesterday, the KPCC chief said, “Under the current circumstances, the Congress is not in a position to take on the BJP. We will join hands with like-minded parties in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections to keep the communal agents out of power,” he said.

Mr Rao has said that right wing elements believing in violent methods to settle debate were gaining clout under the governance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“I do not have evidence to claim that the BJP and the Sangh Parivar are behind the killings of rationalists and activists subscribing to ideologies different from that of the right wing. However, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) report on the killing of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar and activist Gowri Lankesh has proved that systematic planning and execution are taking place by some extremist right wing organisations,” he said.

He further stated that people were being killed in the name of cow vigilantism and other such issues. For every crime, there is a punishment. But some right wing extremists have taken it upon themselves to provide mob justice, which is dangerous to democracy. Congress and All India Congress Committee president Rahul Gandhi are opposing this divisive ideology and are going to the people seeking vote against the hatred politics of the BJP, he said.

He added that co-ordination committee chairman Siddaramaiah is not acting as a Leader of the Opposition and a section of media was misinterpreting his statements. “Mr. Siddaramaiah himself has clarified his statement on becoming Chief Minister. So, there is nothing more for me to add,” he said.

Mr Rao said that the BJP is still continuing with its efforts to break the coalition government. “However, it has not succeeded in luring our MLAs. None of the MLAs will leave the party, as they don’t fear CBI raids nor they will fall to its lures,” he added.

Mangaluru, Jun 7: The Sri Krishna temple at Udupi would not re-open on June 8 although permission has been given to all temples to allow devotees for darshan, Admaru mutt junior seer Paryaya Swami Ishapriya Teertha said on Saturday. He told reporters in Udupi that the mutt has decided not to allow devotees at present to join the fight against COVID-19 by the government, health department and the police.

The seer said the situation would be assessed in the next 20-30 days after which a decision to re-open the place of worship would be taken.

The health of the devotees and the staff at the mutt and temple would have to be protected.

However, pujas and rituals would continue to be held at the temple, he said.

Meanwhile, Dharmasthala dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade said in a press release that the Lord Manjunatheshwara temple in Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada district would open for devotees from June 8. He said 800-1,000 devotees would be allowed to have darshan at the temple every day, keeping with the regulations of the government.

Mass-feeding (annadhanam) in the Annapoorna hall would also be organised, maintaining social distance in view of the virus spread.

Bhopal, Mar 7: Independent MLA Surendra Singh Shera on Saturday said that he was not in any kind of captivity in Bengaluru and he will meet Chief Minister Kamal Nath soon.

"I was in Bengaluru for my daughter's medical treatment. I was not in any kind of captivity. I will meet CM Kamal Nath soon," Shera told reporters here upon returning to Bhopal from Bengaluru.

Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh alleged that the BJP had escorted four Madhya Pradesh MLAs, including three from his party, to Bengaluru.

"Last night, two charter planes were booked by BJP to take MLAs to Bengaluru. One was a 9-seater plane while the other was 12-seater. In the 12-seater plane, four MLAs were taken to Bengaluru. Out of them, three Congress MLAs Bisahulal Singh, Raghuraj Kansana and Hardeep Dang and one Independent MLA Surendra Singh Shera," Singh had said.

He has accused BJP of resorting to horse-trading in order to bring down the Kamal Nath government.
