Notification issued for by-election to Chincholi, Kundgol Assembly segments in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Apr 22: The fining of nomination papers for by-elections to Chincholi (SC) and Kundagol Assembly segments in Karnataka began today with issue of the notification by respective District Electoral Officers on Monday.

While, the by-election for Chincholi Assembly seat was necessitated due to resignation of Congress member Umesh Jadhav, who has quit the party and joined BJP to contest against senior Congress leader Mallikarjuna Kharge in Kalabuargi Lok Sabha segment, and untimely death of sitting Congress member and Minister C S Shivalli led to by election to Kundagol Assembly seat.

The last day for filing of nomination papers will be April 29 and scrutiny will take place the next day. Last date for withdrawal of nomination papers will be May 2 and polling will be held on May 19.

Bengaluru, Apr 2: A health worker, who was part of a team fighting against the Coronavirus disease in the city, was allegedly attacked by a mob and duped of her belongings at the Sadiq Layout in the Shivajinagar area on Thursday.

According to police sources, the health worker came under attack by a mob of youths when she was collecting data from those who were sick in the locality.

Bengaluru, June 19: The throat swabs of a Bengaluru-based Kannada journalist, who passed away on June 18, were tested positive for the covid-19, officials said.

Gauripura Chandru (54), who was one of the sub-editors of Vijaya Karnataka Kannada daily newspaper, had reportedly suffered cardiac arrest.

It is learnt that Chandru wasn’t keeping well for past few days. He collapsed at his home on Thursday afternoon and was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

A native of Gauripura in Chitradurga district, Chandru had completed graduation in engineering. However, he had chosen journalism as his profession.

Hassan, May 8: A newly married couple accidentally fell into the Hemavathi river and drowned while clicking selfies near Henneli village in the district, police said on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Kritika (23) of the same village and Artheesh (27) of Belur taluk in the district.

They got married on March 20. Both were working in Bengaluru and were in the village due to the lockdown.
