Now, court issues summons to HDK in land de-notification case

Bengaluru, Sept 5: A special court here has issued summons to former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, asking him to appear for questioning in connection with a land de-notification case.

The Special Court for Elected Representatives issued the summons on Wednesday, directing Kumaraswamy to appear for questioning on October 4.

On July 20, Special Judge Ramachandra D Huddar had rejected the B report (closure report) of the Lokayukta police in the case, where it had cited lack of evidence.

The court issued the summons to Kumaraswamy in connection with a complaint made in 2007 to the Lokayukta, alleging he had illegally denotified land in Banashankari's Halagevaderahalli village during his stint as the chief minister.

The complaint had been filed by one M Mahadeva Swamy from Santhemarahalli in Karnataka's Chamarajanagar district.

Security beefed up at airports across country after suspicious bag found at Mangaluru airport

New Delhi, Jan 20: Security has been beefed up at airports across the country after a suspicious bag was found at the Mangaluru airport on Monday.

According to Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards the airports in the country, a man was captured in the CCTV dropping the bag inside Mangaluru airport.

According to the CISF DIG Anil Pandey, traces of improvised explosive device (IED) have been found from the bag.

"According to CCTV footage, a suspect kept the bag at Mangaluru airport and was then seen leaving in auto while concealing his face. The suspected object was detected timely and local bomb disposal team is working on its disposal," DIG Pandey told media.

"We have found traces of IED from a bag lying at a ticket counter in Mangaluru airport, we have safely evacuated it," DIG Pandey told media.

According to sources, initial investigations have revealed that the bag contained some type of black powder.

"Initial investigation has revealed that the bag contained a black powder which seems to be explosive, though it is yet to be cleared what kind of explosive it is," sources claimed.

"After we found the suspicious bag at Mangaluru airport, a security drill has been initiated at all the airports and CISF staff have been asked to beef up security," DIG Pandey said.

Bengaluru top cop calls meeting of essential services representative at his office

Bengaluru, Mar 25: Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao on Wednesday called a meeting of online, e-commerce food, medicine, groceries or animal products delivery aggregators at his office in wake of situation arising out of lockdown imposed in the entire country due to coronavirus epidemic.

The Police Commissioner has appealed one representative from each agency to join him in the meeting at 7 pm.

"I have called a meeting of online, e-commerce food, medicine, groceries, vegetables/fruits or animal products delivery aggregators today at 7 pm at my office at Infantry Road, Bengaluru," said Rao.

"One representative from each agency may please come. We promise all cooperation, please come," he said.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Wednesday confirmed 539 positive cases of coronavirus in the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Tuesday announced a 21-day lockdown in the entire country effective from midnight to deal with the spread of coronavirus, saying that "social distancing" is the only option to deal with the disease, which spreads rapidly.

Mangaluru: 22-yr-old woman critical as car runs over her after knocking down her scooter

Mangaluru, Aug 7: A woman suffered critical injuries after a speeding car knocked down her scooter and then ran over her at Kadri Kambla Junction in the city today.

The woman identified as Vanishri Bhat (22) a resident of Kedila from Puttur.

A CCTV footage of the accident, which went viral on social media, shows the car hitting the scooter, pushing the woman on road for a couple of meters before climbing over her.

The car stopped when she was under it. A few people including a policeman lifted the car from the front and rescued the woman.

She was immediately taken to a private hospital in Mangaluru City MLA U T Khader’s car which was passing through that way.

She has suffered critical injuries on her head, ribs, hands and legs, sources said. She is reportedly responding to treatment.

It may be recalled that in December last year a lorry-auto accident at the same spot claimed life of a 56-year-old teacher while the auto driver miraculously survived. Following the accident, speed breakers were installed at the junction.
