Mangaluru, Jul 21: Amidst nationwide uproar over the murders and attacks carried out by the so called cow protectors linked to Sangh Parivar, the Dakshina Kannada district unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal has decided to form ‘Gau Raksha Dal’ and indirectly threatened to take lawn into their hands to “protect cows”.

“We have lost faith in police. We must take drastic steps to protect our cows,” said VHP leader Jagadish Shenava, while revealing about the formation of Gau Raksha Dal at a press meet here today.

“The government and police have miserably failed to teach a lesson to the cattle thieves who are directly stealing cows from their sheds and smuggling and killing them. The society should collectively fight against this menace,” he said.

He said that the Bajrang Dal will form Gau Raksha Dal in every village of Dakshina Kannada district and each unit will have 15 to 20 members who will patrol their respective areas and keep an eye on the suspected cattle lifters.

As part of fight against cattle theft, he said, the VHP and BD will jointly organised a massive rally on July 26 from Moodushedde, wherein several cases of cattle theft have been reported.  He said that over 3,000 people will take part in the rally including the seven elected BJP MLAs of the district.

Bajrang Dal leaders Praveen Kuthar, Pradeep Kumar and Bhujanga Kulal were present at the press meet.

New Delhi, Jan 19: Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Sunday asserted that every state assembly has the constitutional right to pass a resolution and seek the amended Citizenship Act's withdrawal, but if the law is declared constitutional by the Supreme Court then it will be problematic to oppose it.

His remarks came a day after he had said there is no way a state can deny the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) when it is already passed by the Parliament.

"I believe the CAA is unconstitutional. Every State Assembly has the constitutional right to pass a resolution and seek its withdrawal. When and if the law is declared to be constitutional by the Supreme Court then it will be problematic to oppose it. The fight must go on!" Sibal said in a tweet.

His remarks on the CAA at the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) on Saturday had caused a flutter as several non-BJP governments, including Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Maharashtra, have voiced their disagreement with the CAA as well as National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).

"If the CAA is passed no state can say 'I will not implement it'. It is not possible and is unconstitutional. You can oppose it, you can pass a resolution in the Assembly and ask the central government to withdraw it.

"But constitutionally saying that I won't implement, it is going to be problematic and going to create more difficulties," said the former minister of law and justice.

Belagavi,  Jul 19: In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman used a pushcart to take the body of her dead husband to the crematorium after she allegedly did not receive any help from relatives who suspected him to have died of Covid.

The woman and her son were seen pushing the body in the Athani thaluk of Belagavi.

The man had died two days ago at his residence and no family member apart from the close members attended the last rites due to the fear that he was COVID-19 positive.

It was later found that the deceased person was COVID-19 negative.

A total of 3,693 new COVID-19 positive cases and 115 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Friday, said the state health department.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state is presently at 55,115, including 33,205 active cases. While there are 20,757 recoveries, the death toll stands at 1,147.

Bengaluru, Jun 17: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has directed Minorities Department officials to take steps for tabling the Karnataka Lokayukta report on alleged irregularities in wakf properties in Karnataka, during the next session of the State legislature.

Following the Anwar Manipaddi report on alleged irregularities in wakf properties, the Lokayukta conducted the probe. The Siddaramaiah government rejected both the Anwar Manipaddi report and the Lokayukta report.

The Chief Minister issued the directions to officials during a review of the department works on Tuesday, said an official press release. The Lokayukta reportedly named several Congress leaders and senior officers in the scam.

The Lokayukta conducted the probe and submitted the report containing 15 volumes to the State government during the Siddaramaiah government’s tenure.
