NRHM Scam: Enforcement Directorate Attaches Ex-Minister's Assets Worth Rs. 196 Crore

New Delhi, Sep 24: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today attached assets worth Rs. 196 crore belonging to BSP chief Mayawati's close aide Babu Singh Kushwaha in connection with National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) money laundering case.

NRHMThe ED, in its attachment order, alleged that Mr Kushwaha, as health minister of Uttar Pradesh, had helped many private firms in rigging contracts for the health scheme. The agency had registered a criminal case in this scam in 2012 in Lucknow after taking cognisance of a CBI FIR in this case.

The agency has earlier questioned Mr Kushwaha in this case along with many other accused.

"The attached assets include various movable and immovable assets in the name of Kushwaha. An amount of Rs. 7.12 crore have been utilised as book value purchase of various properties in the name of companies, firms and individuals related to the former Minister and his associates.

"The present market value of these assets is Rs. 196 approximately," the order said.

The attachments, the order said, have been made under the provisions of the Prevention if Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The ED had registered a total of 14 separate cases against Mr Kushwaha and others to probe the alleged financial irregularities in the NRHM scheme and it has earlier attached assets worth Rs. 60 crore of Mr Kushwaha.

New Delhi, Jan 17: A Delhi court Friday issued fresh death warrants for February 1, 6 am against the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case.

Additional Sessions Judge Satish Kumar Arora was hearing a plea by one of the four death row convicts in the case, Mukesh Kumar Singh, seeking postponement of the date of his execution scheduled for January 22.

Earlier in the day, the Tihar jail authorities sought issuance of fresh death warrants against the four convicts.

Public Prosecutor Irfan Ahmed told the court that Mukesh's mercy plea was rejected by President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday.

The 23-year-old paramedic student, referred to as Nirbhaya, was gang-raped and brutally assaulted on the intervening night of December 16-17, 2012 inside a moving bus in south Delhi by six persons before being thrown out on the road.

She died on December 29, 2012, at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

New Delhi, Feb 16: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal was on Sunday sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Delhi for the third time in a row at Ramlila Maidan here, after his party registered a massive victory in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly polls.

Kejriwal was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.

The sprawling Ramlila Maidan reverberated with sounds of thousands of people cheering for the AAP leader.

Kejriwal who received a hero's welcome here had extended an invitation to the people of Delhi urging them to attend the swearing-in ceremony to witness "the son of Delhi" taking oath today.

The AAP nearly repeated its 2015 performance in the elections, sweeping the Assembly polls winning 62 seats in the 70-member Assembly, in the face of a high-voltage campaign by the BJP, which fielded a battery of Union Ministers and Chief Ministers in its electioneering spearheaded by Home Minister Amit Shah.

New Delhi, Jun 11: Petrol and diesel prices on Thursday were hiked by 60 paise per litre each - the fifth straight daily increase in rates since oil PSUs ended an 82-day hiatus in rate revision.

Petrol price in Delhi was hiked to Rs 74 per litre from Rs 73.40 while diesel rates were increased to Rs 72.22 a litre from Rs 71.62, according to a price notification of state oil marketing companies.

Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local sales tax or VAT.

This is the fifth daily increase in rates in a row since oil companies on Sunday restarted revising prices in line with costs, after ending an 82-day hiatus.

In five hikes, petrol price has gone up by Rs 2.74 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.83.
