Bengaluru, Apr 16: In order to bring uniform act for all universities in the state under the Karnataka University Act 2017, the state government formed a committee in this connection.

As per the instruction of deputy chief minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, higher education department has issued an order to form a committee under the chairmanship of R Vasudeva Athre.

The other members are former Bengaluru university Vice-Chancellor Prof B Thimmegoda, IIT Bengaluru director Prof Sadagopan, Srusti institute of arts and design technology Geetha Narayan Srusti, centre of educational and social studies president Dr M K Sridhat and state higher education parishad Executive Director Dr M S Kori, co-member of the committee.

Mangaluru, May 14: An 80-year-old woman from Kulshekar in Mangaluru, who was undergoing treatment for covid-19, today breathed her last in the hospital.

The victim, identified as P-507, was said to be in critical condition for past few days.

The elderly woman and her 45-year-old son were tested coronavirus positive on April 27 days after she got admitted to First Neuro hospital at Padil in the city.

With this the covid-19 death toll in Dakshina Kannada rose to five. Shockingly, all five victims are women. The district has so far reported 34 positive cases including five deaths. Currently there are only 14 active cases. 15 people have already discharged.

Kuwait: The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all sections of the community in Kuwait, hundreds of NRIs are stranded due to unavailability of flights to fly back home. During this video conference, association leaders briefly explained various issues, statistics of emergency cases which include pregnant women, Senior citizens, visit visa expired cases and urgent medical treatment requirement cases who wish to travel back to Karnataka.

Evacuation flights to Bengaluru and Mangalore from Kuwait and other Gulf countries, request for free airline tickets or free quarantine facility at Bengaluru and Mangaluru also requested during this video call.

Responding to leaders requests, B.S Yediyurappa promised to address GCC Kannadigas concerns during this humanitarian crisis.
