Kasaragod, Nov 20: Upset over the undue delay in implementing the revised pay structure in most of the hospitals, hundreds of nursing staff members with private institutions here have decided to relaunch indefinite agitation from December 1.
The nurses under the aegis of Indian Nurses Association (INA) also sought stipulated working time as quite a few nurses are driven to work up to 15 hours at a stretch for over two weeks, INA district secretary Ajeesh Chacko told a press conference here.
The decision to relaunch the strike comes against the backdrop of failed talks the District Labour Officer had recently with the hospital managements for four times in a row, he alleged. Private hospitals should be prepared to implement three shift duty structure as only one hospital came forward to follow suit, he said.
A majority of the nursing staff in the district continued to be deprived of eligible allowances, besides minimum wages and other benefits such as employees State insurance (ESI), PF, and maternity leave.
The fresh agitation comes in the face of some private hospitals imposing steep charges for services as simple as TT injections.
