Amidst the Bharatiya Janata Party’s unprecedented hate campaign against the Mysuru Kingdom’s legendary ruler Tipu Sultan, the Congress party members have started circulating photographs of senior BJP leaders wearing the replicas of martyred king’s headgear.

The photos of two former chief ministers from BJP, B S Yeddyurappa and Jagadish Shetter, former ministers R Ashok, C P Yogeshwar among others paying tribute to Tipu Sultan are now going viral on social media.
The development comes in the backdrop of abusive statements issued by BJP leaders such as Union minister Anant Kumar Hegde and MPs Shobha Karandlaje, Nalin Kumar Kateel and Pratap Simha against Tipu Sultan.
The BJP leaders have also warned the State government against printing their names on the official invitation of the Tipu Jayanati to be celebrated onNovember 10.
Siddaramaiah exposes BJP’s double standard
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was in Bantwal on Sunday, reiterated that his government will not stop celebrating Tipu Jayanti. “It was Tipu who issued the first battle cry of freedom. He waged four wars against the British. Every Indian should be proud of him,” he said.
He recalled that when Yeddyurappa was in the KJP, he had worn an attire similar to that of Tipu Sultan and also had held a sword in his hand to pose for a photograph. BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje, who is now calling Tipu an ‘anti-Hindu’, was also with Yeddyurappa at that time, he said.
When former vice chancellor Sheikh Ali wrote a book on Tipu Sultan, BJP leader Jagadish Shettar, who was then the chief minister, had written a foreword to the book praising the valour of Tipu. Shettar had called Tipu a patriot. Now, he is changing his tune.
“By politicising Tipu Jayanti, the true face of BJP leaders has come to the fore. Those who do not have knowledge of history cannot create history. Tipu had fought against the British and was a true patriot. Hence, the state government is observing Tipu Jayanti,” he justified.
