Udupi, Mar 9: BJP leader and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje said that there was no dissidence in the party over her candidature from the constituency which includes a coastal and a malnad district.

Replying to queries from presspersons after releasing a booklet on her achievements as MP in the last five years, Ms. Karandlaje said that whatever be the differences among the party leaders and workers, after elections are announced, all of them backed the candidate selected by the high command. “Once the war (elections) starts, we are all one,” she said.

To a question, Ms. Karandlaje said that if Sumalatha were to stand as an independent candidate from the Mandya parliamentary constituency, the BJP would consider supporting her. Asked if the BJP would induct her into its fold, Ms. Karandlaje said that now Ms. Sumalatha was in the Congress.

“But if she decides to join the BJP, she is welcome,” she said.

Answering a question, Ms. Karandlaje said that if the Muslim community agreed to have the Ram Temple, the issue would get resolved and the dreams of the Hindus would get realised. However, if mediation efforts lead to a solution, it too would be good, she said.

Ms. Karandlaje said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had fulfilled the assurances he had given to the people of the country during the 2014 parliamentary elections.

Mr. Modi’s administration had achieved military and diplomatic successes. There was development in the country. Corruption had been reined in, she said.

Kota Srinivas Poojary, Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council, and Raghupati Bhat, MLA, were present.

Kozhikode, Jun 14: A mosque in Kuttichira of Kozhikode has found a unique way to avoid crowding amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee that runs the mosque has started issuing smart cards to people for offering prayers and simultaneously encouraging social distancing.

"The committee has given smart cards with numbers to the people in the surroundings of the Masjid. One who enters the mosque premises has to rub their hands with sanitizers. They also have to tell their identity on camera. The automatic system has been put in place to save the address and phone number. Next time onwards they have to say their smart card number only so that other details will be automatically filled," said Muhammad Sajjad, who is part of the Mosque committee.

"The door of the mosque will open automatically after swiping the card. We have fit in a sensor on the doors. We have also made marks inside the mosque area so that people can abide by social distancing norm," he added.

A couple of days back the Kerala government has rolled out an order allowing the opening of places of worship, malls and restaurants from June 9 in strict accordance with guidelines and social distancing norms. As per the guidelines, pregnant women and those with co-morbidities should not visit any places of worship. Those with symptoms should not be allowed.

Bengaluru, Aug 3: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee working president Satish Jarakiholi on Sunday said that as per the party sources, state chief minister BS Yediyurappa has got only six months' time and there are different teams working against Yediyurappa in their party.

The BJP high command has decided to bring down Yediyurappa, Jarakhioli said. He added, "Yediyurappa had asked BJP high command to appoint him Chief Minister for six months and due to corona, his period has been extended. But now their own party sources have revealed that he has got only another six months."

While addressing the issue of different statements by BJP leaders and ministership aspirants after five MLCs were nominated, Jarakiholi said "Yediyurappa followers are not actual followers. BJP high command has already decided to bring down Yediyurappa as per their own party sources."

While speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, he said there are teams formed in the names of deputy CMs and there are many who are working in their party against Yediyurappa.

He also said that it's up to their party what they think about Yediyurappa's tenure, whether they keep him as CM or remove him. Being in Opposition, now Congress is only working on strengthening the party, he said.
