One held after subway blast near Times Square in New York City

New York, Dec 11: A law enforcement official says a man had an explosive device strapped on when it exploded on a Manhattan subway platform. A person was arrested and has non-life-threatening injuries.

New York City Police said on December 11 that they were investigating an explosion of “unknown origin” in busy downtown Manhattan, and that people were being evacuated.

A law enforcement official says what is believed to be an explosive device has been set off on Manhattan subway platform. The official said that a man had an explosive device strapped on when it exploded. The explosion happened around 7.30 a.m. on December 11. Details were still developing. A person was arrested and has non-life-threatening injuries.

There was no immediate word of any other injuries.

Passengers were evacuated as a precaution from the subway line where the explosion happened, near 40th Street and Eighth Avenue.

Media reports said at least one person had been detained after the blast near the Port Authority transit terminal, close to Times Square.

Early media reports said the blast came from a pipe bomb, and that several people were injured.

"The NYPD is responding to reports of an explosion of unknown origin at 42nd Street and 8th Ave, #Manhattan. The A, C and E line are being evacuated at this time. Info is preliminary, more when available," the New York police department wrote on their Twitter account.

President Donald Trump was briefed on the explosion, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders wrote on Twitter.

WPIX television reported, citing sources, that a man with a possible second device has been detained in the subway tunnel.

Aurangabad, Jan 29: Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of creating a conflict between Hindu and Muslim communities in the country, former JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar has said the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) was adding fuel to the fire.

He was speaking at a rally held on Tuesday at Pathri in Parbhani district of Maharashtra against the CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). It was organised by NCP MLC Abdullah Durrani.

"Modi and Shah used to create conflicts between Hindus and Muslims during the Gujarat elections. Now they are adopting the same strategy in the country," Kumar alleged.

Citizens should keep the religious conflicts aside and question the present government about unemployment and the poor state of the economy, he said.

"Through the CAA, the government is adding fuel to the fire, which is already raging in the country," he alleged.

When anyone questions the government about the problems existing in the country, it in turn asks him about his citizenship, the former JNUSU leader alleged.

Apr 26: The Chinese city of Wuhan, where the global coronavirus pandemic began, now has no remaining cases in its hospitals, a health official told reporters on Sunday.

"The latest news is that by April 26, the number of new coronavirus patients in Wuhan was at zero, thanks to the joint efforts of Wuhan and medical staff from around the country," National Health Commission spokesman Mi Feng said at a briefing.

The city had reported 46,452 cases, 56% of the national total. It saw 3,869 fatalities, or 84% of China's total.
