Onion price rises to Rs 60 per kg in Karnataka's capital

Bengaluru, Sept 24: Onion prices in Bengaluru surged after the rain hits the supply and selling at Rs 60 per kilograms (Kg).

"Onion price was Rs 20 per kg and now there is a shortage of supply due to rains and therefore we are getting onions at Rs 50-60 per kg. This is why we are selling it at a price of Rs 60 per kg. It will remain like this for two more months and will stabilize after that," Inayatullah, a vendor at KR Market, told ANI.

He further said that the price rise has resulted in slowing down of sales. "Earlier customers used to buy 2 or 3 kgs but now most of them stick to just purchasing 1 kg," he said.

A buyer, Manohar said, "Just fifteen days ago I bought onions at Rs 20 per kg but now it is selling at Rs 60 per kg. I don't know whose mistake is it, the government's or farmers' or is it due to climate change."

"Whatever is the reason the government should step in to check the price rise," he added.

Mangaluru, Feb 2: A video of a woman rescuing a dog from a well in Mangaluru has gone viral on social media. The dog fell inside the well accidentally and the woman rushed to the spot to rescue it. The two minute seven second video has been shared on Twitter by a user, Mauna, and has ever since been viewed over 15,000 times.

The woman climbed down the well as other people attached a rope to her body during the rescue mission. Another rope was then thrown to her and she tied it around the dog after which it was pulled outside. The woman, thereafter, climbed outside the well with much difficulty.

"Bless the lady who saved the Dog," the user captioned the post.

Udupi, Jun 30: The novel coronavirus has claimed another life in the coastal district. The throat swabs of a 48-year-old man who breathed his last two days ago tested positive today. 

With this, the covid-19 death toll in the district rose to 3.

The man, who was a native of Kalthodu in Byndoor, had returned from Mumbai on June 2. He breathed his last on June 28 at his residence. 

The deceased’s swabs were collected on the same day. The report came today. He was reportedly suffering from some illnesses.

The funeral of the deceased was held as per protocol. The swab samples of primary contacts of the deceased were also taken.

Bengaluru, Aug 5: A red alert has been issued in several districts in Karnataka due to heavy rainfall in the state since last two-three days, the India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday.

"Red alert has been announced in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Chickamagalur, Shivamogga, Kodagu and Hassan, due to heavy rainfall in the region from last two-three days," CS Patil, Director, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bengaluru said.
