Opposition parties projecting BJP as anti-Dalit: PM

New Delhi, Sep 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held “self-appointed guardians” of the Scheduled Castes responsible for building, what he said, was a chorus that the BJP was anti-Dalit.

modiIn an interview to a private channel, which was aired on Friday, Modi said his reaching out to the Dalits has disturbed “those who see this as an obstruction to their politics” and “this is why they are levelling baseless allegations”.

Rejecting the allegations of the Opposition parties, especially the Congress, that some of the charges against their leadership were motivated, Modi affirmed that “neither have I indulged in political vendetta nor will I do it in future”.

He tried to back his claim, as per a report on the channel’s official website, by asserting that his 14-year stint as Gujarat chief minister bore testimony that he didn’t believe in “political tit for tat”.

In the same breath, alluding to the ongoing cases against Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul, Modi said the law would take its own course and any fallout should not be misconstrued as a tit for tat by his government.

He urged political leaders, including from his own party, to give up out-of-turn comments. Arguing that some people cannot digest the fact that “Modi is pro-Dalit”, he said the figures showed caste and communal violence was on the decline now, compared to the Congress-led UPA?regime.

“We have a culture dating back to thousands of years. We have seen some imbalance in our society...we have to intelligently take our society out of this imbalance. This is a social problem. It is deeply rooted. Politics on social imbalances is a disservice to society, to all those who have faced injustice for generations,” he said.

He said the BJP had the highest number of MLAs and MPs from the Scheduled Caste community. On the BJP’s electoral strategy for the Assembly polls due in important states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat, Modi said the party would contest on the plank of development, welfare of farmers, jobs for youth, commitment to the cause of social justice and peace and brotherhood. He said he abhorred vote-bank politics on the grounds that it doesn’t strengthen democracy in the country. But, Modi hoped that the people of Uttar Pradesh would vote “keeping development in mind”, as there was no atmosphere of vote-bank politics in 2014 which brought him to power.

New Delhi, Jul 8: India has reported a spike of 22,752 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country's coronavirus tally to 7,42,417 on Wednesday, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Out of the total cases reported, 4,56,830 patients have been cured/discharged from the disease while one patient has been migrated, the Health Ministry informed.

It added that there are 2,64,944 active cases in the country.

482 deaths reported in the last 24 hours due to COVID-19 in the country, taking India's death toll to 20,642.

According to the Union Health Ministry, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state reporting 2,17,121 coronavirus cases and 9,250 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu -- the second worst-affected state from COVID-19 -- has a total of 1,18,594 cases and 1,636 deaths due to coronavirus.

While Delhi has a total of 1,02,831 COVID-19 cases including 3,165 deaths.

The Indian Council of Medical Research on Wednesday informed that a total of 1,04,73,771 samples tested for COVID-19 up to July 7. Of these, 2,62,679 samples were tested on Tuesday.

Lucknow, May 19: The administration of the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) has ordered a probe into the cardiac procedure conducted on a corona positive patient in the hospital.

The patient underwent a cardiac procedure without being tested for corona before the surgery. He later tested positive for COVID-19, leading to panic among the staff and other patients.

The medical staff that came in contact with the patient were quarantined on Monday while the area was sanitized.

As per orders from the State Medical Education Department, even in emergency cases, patients are to be screened for Covid-19 before procedures are done.

According to the SGPGI administration, the incident took place late on Sunday night.

In an official statement, director, Prof R.K. Dhiman said, "The 63-year-old patient was a case of complete cardiac blockage and needed an urgent temporary pacemaker. The patient was admitted to the holding area of the institute and later shifted to the MICU for permanent pace making."

He said that when the patient's corona status was found to be positive on the Hospital Information System, she was shifted to the Rajdhani COVID Hospital.

The Director said, "Though the involved areas have been sanitized and healthcare workers were quarantined as per protocol, a probe has been ordered to investigate the lapses."

Rajouri, Aug 3: Ashfaq Mehmood Choudhary, a 17-year-old boy from Chattyear of Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, has developed a file-sharing app 'Dodo Drop' which would enable users to share audios, videos, images, and texts between two devices without Internet access.

While speaking to media persons, Ashfaq Mehmood said that the 'Dodo Drop' application is an alternative to the Chinese 'SHAREit' app. "The Indian government has banned several Chinese apps due to data breaching, and among those apps was SHAREit which was used for sharing files.

Users faced a lot of problems due to the ban, and so I decided to make this file-sharing app. With 'Dodo Drop', users can share audios, videos, images, and even texts," he said.

Ashfaq said that it took him four weeks to develop the application, and it was launched on August 1 this year. The 'Dodo Drop' application has a transfer rate of up to 480 mbps, which is faster than the SHAREit app and is "quite easy" to use.

"Users can transfer data comprising photos, videos, audios, apps, texts, etc. between two devices with no Internet access. The transfers are fully encrypted and secure," he added.

"Our Prime Minister has always asserted the need for decreasing the dependency on foreign products and apps and to focus on the development of India-based apps. I tried to be part of the initiative of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' by developing an India-based file-sharing app. I want to develop global-standard apps for India," he added.

"We support and cooperate with him. He generates his own income by working on some projects and utilises it. We will continue to support him," said Parvez Ahmed Choudhary, Ashfaq's father.

In July, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) banned 47 apps, which were variants and cloned copies of the 59 apps banned earlier in June. These banned clones included SHAREit Lite, Tiktok Lite, Helo Lite, BIGO LIVE Lite, and VFY Lite.

The 59 apps had been banned by the Centre in June in view of the information available that they were engaged in activities which were "prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity and defence" of the country.

Almost all the apps banned had some preferential Chinese interest and the majority had parent Chinese companies.

The ban came amid border tensions with China in the Eastern Ladakh region.
