Orphanage Olympics held in Managluru

Mangaluru Jan 10: It was a special and eventful day for the very enthusiastic 600 children of 10 Orphanage schools operating in Dakshina Kannada district who crave for parental love and affection but unfortunately deprived.

They felt the sense of freedom and freely mingled, played, danced, with other orphanage school children and shared their memorable moments. It was a platform provided by Rotary Club of Mangalore Central to showcase their hidden skills & talents in the field of sports and cultural events. All the guests could see the enjoyment in the faces of the children.

Rotary Club of Mangaluru Central jointly with Rotaract Club of Mangaluru city organised their 17th Annual Orphanage Olympics exclusively for the inmates of the different orphanages operating in the district on Sunday at Canara High School Urwa Campus in the city. It was a one day long fun fair festival of sports and cultural events wherein 600 children belonging to 10 different orphanages of the dist. participated with zeal and enthusiasm.

Mangaluru South MLA JR Lobo in his inaugural address advised the children to grab the rare opportunity provided by the society and participate actively by exhibiting hidden talents and skills to achieve success in their future. The Rotary Club has responded to the needs of the orphanage children by providing a platform and equal opportunity in order to eliminate social inequality. He also lauded the selfless service of Rotarians rendered to community development and recalled club’s substantial financial contribution of Rs. 18 Lakhs towards setting up of Planetarium at Pilikula in the year 1998. Asst. Governor Zone IV Rtn. K R Kamath was the guest of honour on this occasion.

Chairman of the organising committee Rtn. Dr. Devdas Rai in his address revealed that this is club’s prestigious community service project, the aim and objective of the event is to bring a smile on the faces of the lovely children and a feeling that they are not lonely.

President of the club Rtn. Elias Sanctis welcomed. President of Rotaract Club of Mangalore City Rtr. Rajesh Devadiga proposed a vote of thanks. Rtn K. M Hegde compeered the program. On the dais Secretary Rtn. Prasad Shetty and Rtr. Yathish were present.

Is it not possible to combine these children with other
non-Orphanage children.

Naming the program as orphanage, might cause the orphan-children to think, that they are being separated from the society or from other children.

I remember I heard that (if I am not wrong)
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him ) said, whoever look after the orphans, they will be accompanied with him in heaven.

Regardless of religion, race, we should always wholeheartedly help these kids as they never feel they are deprived of parental affection

Bengaluru, Jun 19: COVID-19 cases in Karnataka has breached the 8,000 mark, as the state on Friday reported 337 new cases and ten related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 8,281 and death toll to 124.

Also, total discharges in the state breached 5,000 mark, with 230 patients getting discharged in a day after recovery.

As of June 19 evening, cumulatively 8,281 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 124 deaths and 5,210 discharges, the health department said in its bulletin.

It said out of 2,943 active cases, 2,865 patients are in isolation at designated hospitals and are stable, while 78 are in ICU.

The ten dead include- seven from Bengaluru urban, two from Bidar and one from Vijayapura.

Out of the 337 new cases, 93 are returnees from other states, majority of them from neighboring Maharashtra,while 11 are those who returned from other countries.

The remaining cases include contacts of patients earlier tested positive, those with history of SARI and ILI, among others.

Among the districts where the new cases were reported, Bengaluru accounted for 138 cases, followed by Kalaburagi 52, Ballari 37, Hassan 18, Dakshina Kannada 13, Davangere 12, Udupi 11; Bidar 10, six each from Mysuru and Koppal, four each from Yadgir, Kolar and Bengaluru rural, three each from Mandya, Dharwad, Chikkaballapura, Bagalkote and Ramanagara, two each from Tumakuru and Chikkamagaluru, and one each from Belagavi, Uttara Kannada and Shivamogga.

Kalaburagi district tops the list of positive cases, with 1,126 infections, followed by Udupi 1,050 and Bengaluru urban 982.

Among discharges Udupi tops the list with 944 discharges, followed by Kalaburagi 646 and Yadgir 477.

A total of 4,84,060 samples were tested so far, out of which 10,553 were tested on Thursday alone.

According to the bulletin,4,64,338 samples have been reported as negative, and out of them 9,862 were reported negative today.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala, had appointed five persons to the Karnataka Legislative Council, which remained vacant, including former ministers H Vishwanath and C P Yogeshwar, here on Wednesday.

In a Raj Bhavan communique issued here on Wednesday, it was stated that the Governor had accepted the names suggested by the Chief minister B S Yediyurappa, to fill the vacancies in the Upper House.

Apart from H Vishwanath, and Yogeshwar, the others who were nominated to the Council, were former MLA Bharathi Shetty, Shantharama Budna Siddi, and Talwar Sabanna.

Mangaluru, May 24: Muslims across coastal Karnataka today observed Eid Al-Fitr by offering Eid prayers at home instead of mosques and Eidgahs.

For the first time the cities of Mangaluru and Udupi wore a deserted look on the day of Eid. Strict implementation of the lockdown was seen in the both cities. All vehicles except those transporting essentials remained off the roads.

Following the orders of orders of the deputy commissioners of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi and guidance of religious scholars and Qadhis, Muslims preferred not to venture out of homes on the day of Eid. The 36 hours of complete lockdown which came into force yesterday at 7 p.m. will relaxed tomorrow morning at 7 a.m.

The Eidgah at Light House Hill area of the city and other prominent mosques, where thousands used to gather to offer namaz during festivals, were empty today.

Photos of simple Eid celebrations were share on social media to keep the spirit of festival alive in times of pandemic.

This time Muslims in the region had also decided not to buy any new clothes for Eid. Campaigns were run in the moth of Ramadan to encourage the Muslims to donate the amount of new clothes to the needy instead.

Throughout the month of Ramadan Muslim organisations were distributing food among the stranded migrant labourers in the region.
