Our workers trained by RSS can break shoulders: BJP state chief

May 29, 2016

Kolkata, May 29: BJP West Bengal President Dilip Ghosh has kicked up a storm with his remarks that his party workers, "trained" by RSS, can break the shoulders of Trinamool Congress activists with "bare hands", drawing flak from the ruling party, Congress and the Left.dilip-ghosh

Courting controversy yet again, he asked TMC workers to "stop" violence, "mend" their ways or face "consequences" when they travel outside Bengal.

"They can't do whatever they want and beat up our cadres without reasons. TMC is thinking they can do whatever they want. But, they should remember one thing that out of Bengal, it's only BJP and BJP," Ghosh told a public rally in Kharagpur.

"If they (Trinamool) have 211 MLAs, then we have more than 1,000 MLAs and MPs across India. If they step outside Bengal, we will teach them a lesson. Their family members should mark their name with red ink when they go out of their homes," he said.

"Don't instigate us. We are warning you. I don't interfere but if you provoke me, I will not be good. I am warning you there will be no happiness. I will first cut off water supply, then power, then I will shut the door and thrash you. We are capable of everything. The boys are trained by RSS and are ready. Your shoulders will be broken," he said on Friday.

He said he has to just dial 11 digits. "You will be thrashed from the airport to your house, then from the house to the hospital. No one will find you. Your families will be informed with a photograph on WhatsApp," Ghosh said.

Ghosh today said, "Why can't I make such comments. If my cadres are attacked, I have every right to protect them. TMC should immediately make a public appeal to stop violence."

He said in Assam BJP won the Assembly polls, but no opposition workers was touched. In Bengal, a "bloodbath" is going on, he said.

If TMC doesn't stop violence, then the children of TMC workers would become orphans, he said.

The BJP leader had earlier drawn flak for his controversial comments on TMC and then on a section of women students in Jadavpur University.

Reacting to Ghosh's remarks, TMC Vice President Mukul Roy said, "This is totally unacceptable. We will write to both the Houses of Parliament. These comments only prove who is the victim and who are the perpetrators."

State Health and Family Welfare Minister Shashi Panja said now there is a BJP leader who is day after day commenting on women or threatening to beat up TMC followers.

"This is very unfortunate. This is not the kind of politics one should pursue," she said, adding in a democracy someone wins and someone else loses in an election.

TMC leader in Lok Sabha Sudip Bandopadhyay condemned the remarks and said he would write to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan drawing her attention to the issue.
Congress member in Rajya Sabha Pradip Bhattacharya said it is "okay" if RSS training was taken and it was their own work.

"If they have taken training to torture others, then steps should be taken against that," he said, noting that his party will never support Ghosh.

CPI(M) leader Nepaldeb Bhattacharya said such statements only act as fuel to the fire. "We condemn it," he said.

Echoing similar sentiments, state RSP Secretary Khsiti Goswami said, "Those who are in public life should be more careful about their statements."

JD(U) spokesperson Ajay Alok said that if RSS provides training to defend, then they also give training to break necks.

"The question is whose neck they want to break -- the nation's, those of nationalists or traitors. Because whatever is happening in Jammu and Kashmir, the whole country can see who is breaking whose neck," he said.

Ghosh also said TMC workers have to be told in the language they understand.

"Politics should happen in a democratic way. There is a limit to our patience. If they cross it, we should also reply in the same language," he said.

The BJP leader said it is the state government's responsibility to stop violence.

He claimed that when the state police tried to be proactive, five SP were transferred. "It shows what the government wants. The police force itself needs security," he said.

Bengaluru, Jun 7: An eminent scientist on Sunday suggested a shift system in schools to prevent spread of the coronavirus and continuing with online classes with focus on project-based learning in a big way to promote creativity.

Former Director General of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) V K Saraswat supported the idea of online teaching in the absence of regular classes in view of closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But, he said it should be organised in far better and more interactive ways so that delivery of knowledge can be better. The NITI Aayog member stressed the need for schools to have a strategy when they reopen keeping in mind the safety of students.

May be they will have to organise shifts so that within the same space they can handle the students; May be they will have to employ more teachers, and they can run two shifts. "May be half the strength in a class can come in the morning and others in the afternoon.

Or students of first to sixth standard can come in the morning and seventh to tenth can come in the afternoon, Saraswat told PTI. Reopening strategy will have to be worked out by the education department, added the former Chief Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister.

Along with normal classes, online education should be continued as a regular system in future, and promoted in a big way because that is the way technology is going to help delivery of knowledge, he added. Saraswat also raised the pitch for reforms in the education sector, saying India is facing the problem of rote learning.

Rote learning has to give way for more project-based teaching, he underlined. Children should be made to work on projects at home and that can be done online. That will also support the changeover from rote learning to creative learning.

I personally believe the education delivery system -- primary, secondary and college levels -- has to be completely changed because creativity in India is less and creativity would come only if we replace rote learning with project-based learning, Saraswat said.

On some academics holding the view that the marks-based model is killing the education system in India as it does not promote creativity, he said evaluation of any outcome is important. Even when we perform in our normal way, evaluation cannot be replaced.

Otherwise, you cant find out how much you have succeeded in delivery. Certainly evaluation cannot be dispensed with. He did not agree with some experts, who favoured a single, uniform system for school education in India by dispensing with CBSE, ICSE and state boards. I am not for normalising everything in life.

I personally believe variety should be there. This concept of one kind of a system is okay for a Communist society, society which was trying to drive everybody like a herd, he said.

Creativity comes with variety, and there is nothing wrong in having different kinds of education system, but one thing which is important is we have to integrate vocational training as part of the education curriculum," Saraswat said. Vocational part cannot be kept away from the education system, he added.

Wuhan, Feb 6: Chinese multinational conglomerate holding company Tencent has allegedly published "real" data on the novel coronavirus deaths, with briefly listing death toll as 24,589 -- way too higher than over 500 deaths China has officially announced to date.

According to Taiwan News, "Tencent... seems to have inadvertently released what is potentially the actual number of infections and deaths, which were astronomically higher than official figures".

Tencent, on its webpage titled "Epidemic Situation Tracker," showed confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in China as standing at 154,023 - over 10 times the official figure given to the world on February 1.

Data leaked: Tencent lists 25,000 deaths in China, 1.54 lakh infections from coronavirus
It listed the number of suspected cases as 79,808, four times the official figure.

"The number of cured cases was only 269, well below the official number that day of 300. Most ominously, the death toll listed was 24,589, vastly higher than the 300 officially listed that day".

Once people noticed this, Tencent immediately updated the numbers to reflect the government's "official" numbers.

"Netizens noticed that Tencent has on at least three occasions posted extremely high numbers, only to quickly lower them to government-approved statistics," said the report.

Some people speculated a coding problem may be behind the real "internal" data but others believe that someone is actually trying to reveal the real numbers.

Tencent was yet to officially comment on these reports.

"According to multiple sources in Wuhan, many coronavirus patients are unable to receive treatment and die outside of hospitals."

There have been multiple reports of Wuhan officials cremating deceased coronavirus victims before they could be added to the official death toll.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the coronavirus numbers coming out of China are "fishy".

If the numbers from the alleged Tencent leak are accurate, it would put coronavirus' mortality rate at almost 16 per cent. By comparison, SARS' mortality rate was 9.6 per cent, reports CCN.

Caijing, an independent magazine based in Beijing that covers societal, political, and economic issues, has also claimed that the Communist Party of China (CCP) is underreporting the extent of the coronavirus outbreak.

Caijing's article on Coronavirus that detailed how Wuhan officials are not reporting real figures was censored in China.

As of Thursday, the official death toll in China rose to 563, with 28,018 confirmed cases.
