Over 900 sheep, 2 buffaloes massacred to appease goddess in Karnataka village

Koppal, Jan 31: More than 900 sheep and two buffaloes were massacred by “devotees” to appease goddess Dyamavva during a fair at a remote village in Karnataka on Tuesday.

The fair is held once in five years at Malakanamaradi village in Gangavati taluk of Koppal district.

As per tradition, initially two buffaloes were sacrificed and offered to the idol goddess in the wee hours of Tuesday. Later, at least two to five sheep were sacrificed from each house in the village.

It is said the massive animal sacrifice could not be prevented though some village youths had tipped off the police department in advance.

Animal lover M N Sharanesh Patil alleged that animals were sacrificed in the presence of the police.

Kalaburagi, Mar 14: Utter negligence of Kalaburagi health department officials was one of the main reasons for the death of his father, alleged family member of Kalaburagi man and India's first COVID-19 victim here on Friday.

The victim's son said 'if officials of Kalaburagi health department had advised us to admit his father in isolated ward, which was opened in Gulbarga Institute of Medical science (GIMS), my father's survival time may have been extended,' he said.

Tumuku, Jul 6: Senior Congress leader and Kunigal MLA Dr H D Ranganathm tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

The 48-year-old Congress legislature, a doctor by himself, was admitted to Manipal hospital and recovering, he said in a tweet.

Dr Ranganath said he took all precautions, yet could not save himself from the virus and advice people to not to take the contagion lightly.

Mangaluru, Apr 18: Three people, including a woman, who were being treated at the city's Wenlock Hospital have been discharged after they recovered from Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

With this, a total of 12 people who had tested positive for the virus until Thursday have been discharged from various hospitals in Dakshina Kannada.

A 39-year-old advocate from Uppinangady tested positive for Covid -19 on Friday, he has been admitted to the Wenlock Hospital and is being treated. With this, only one COVID-19 positive patient is being treated at Wenlock Hospital till Friday evening.
