Pak national who married Indian girl to be deported for overstaying

New Delhi, Mar 2: Akbar Durani from Okhri in Hyderabad province of Pakistan has been arrested and will be deported for overstaying in India in violation of visa norms.

marriedEarlier in 2011, the 31-year old fell in love with an Indian girl Sofia, who stays in Madhya Pradesh's, Dewas, through social media.

Durani along with his mother got visa and came to Dewas to meet Sofia's family, who agreed for marriage but imposed a condition that Durani will have to settle down in India post marriage.

In 2013, their marriage was solemnized in Dewas and after a year they were blessed with a child.

"At his first visit to India, he came on visitor visa and stayed with us for three months. Later, he came on multi-entry visa. But after expiry of the visa, he again applied for extension and also conveyed the status to the concerned police department but he was not granted extension and was arrested by the police," Sofia said.

She said that she has approached External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in this regard. She appealed to the government to grant him visa.

Durani, who taught in a school in Madhya Pradesh, was earlier in 2015 awarded one-year of imprisonment for his overstay in India and violation of visa norms.

Bengaluru, May 6: Central Crime Branch Police have nabbed 71 people involved in various crimes taking advantage of Lock-down which prevents movement of people in the street and seized stolen properties worth about Rs 1.70 crore, official said on Wednesday.

Police said that in all 56 cases were booked. In all 17,312 duplicate Sanitisers, 2000 lts of Chemicals, 18,750 fake Masks, 270 Thermometers and two cars were seized from the arrested culprits.

During the raid godowns where rice and dal meant for free distribution during lock-down were robbed and stored were also seized.

Thrissur, Jun 11: Volunteers of People for Animal Welfare Services rescued a dog that had its mouth sealed with insulation tape around it for two weeks in Ollur of Thrissur district.

The dog has now been shifted to an animal shelter home.

Recently two elephants died in Kerala. One pregnant elephant died after consuming crackers wrapped in some fruits in Palakkad.

Another elephant died in Malappuram after it was found seriously injured in North Nilambur forest range of the district.

Vijayawada, Aug 9: The number of those killed in the fire at a hotel being used as a COVID-19 facility in Vijayawada rose to 10 on Sunday, said Vikrant Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government announced Rs 50 lakh ex-gratia each to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident.

According to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also ordered an in-depth probe into the accident and directed authorities to take steps to ensure better medical services to the victims of the accident.

"The hotel was taken on lease and run by Ramesh Hospitals, a private hospital where COVID-19 patients were being treated. 40 patients and 10 medical staff were at the hotel at the time of the incident. 

Officials were directed to launch immediate rescue measures," said Mekathoti Sucharitha, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the loss of the lives in the fire mishap and spoke to Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy over the phone and enquired about the accident.

The mishap took place in hotel Swarna Palace which was taken on lease and run by a private hospital for COVID patients.
