Pakistan should ensure Lakhvi doesn't walk free: India

New Delhi, March 13: As Islamabad High Court on Friday termed the detention of Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, the mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai attacks and ordered his release, India said that it Pakistan's responsibility to take all legal measures to ensure that he doesn't come out of jail.zaki ur rehman lakhvi

Islamabad High Court has ruled that Lakhvi's detention is illegal saying it did not have evidence to prove his involvement in the Mumbai attacks.

In response, Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home, said: "The overwhelming evidence against Lakhvi has not been presented properly before court by Pakistani agencies," and added "there are no good terrorists or bad terrorists."

Lakhvi, a top commander of the banned terror group LeT, has been in jail since 2009. Lakhvi is one of seven people on trial in Pakistan over the attacks in Mumbai in 2008 which claimed the lives of 166 people.

India has expressed concern over Pakistan’s inability to prosecute the culprits in spite of submitting detailed evidence.

New Delhi, Jul 27: India’s coronavirus epidemic is now growing at the fastest in the world, increasing 20% over the last week to more than 14 lakh confirmed cases, according to Bloomberg’s Coronavirus Tracker.

Infections in the South Asian nation of 130 crore people have reached 14.3 lakh, including 32,771 deaths, India’s health ministry said, with daily cases close to a record 50,000 on Monday. India is only trailing the US and Brazil now in the number of confirmed infections, but its growth in new cases is the fastest.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are among the states where the maximum number of daily cares are being reported. The world’s second-most populous country has been ramping up testing, with 515,472 samples taken on Sunday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Still, India and Brazil have some of the world’s lowest testing rates, with 11.8 tests and 11.93 tests per 1,000 people respectively, compared to the US with 152.98 tests per 1,000 and Russia with 184.34, according to Our World in Data, a project based at the University of Oxford in the UK.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 31: Kerala reported its second COVID-19 death after a 68-year-old man being treated for the virus, died at the Government Medical College Hospital here in the early hours on Tuesday.

The victim, Abdul Aziz, a retired ASI hailing from Pothencode here, was admitted to the isolation ward on March 23 with the symptoms of the Corona infection. He was also suffering from lung and kidney diseases.

Though his first test result for COVID-19 turned negative, the second test result confirmed positive, official sources said.

However, it was not known from where he caught the virus infection. leaving chances for a secondary contract of a COVID-19 patient.

His funeral will take place as per the protocol, the sources added.

New Delhi, May 14: With a spike of 3,722 new cases in the last 24 hours, the COVID-19 count in India reached 78,003 on Thursday morning, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

As per the latest update by the Ministry, there are 49,219 active cases in the country while 26,235 patients have been cured and discharged, and one migrated, so far.

With 134 new deaths being reported due to the disease since yesterday, the toll due to the disease reached 2,549.

With 25,922 confirmed cases, Maharashtra is the worst affected by the infection in the country so far.

Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, with 9,267 and 9,227, cases respectively are the next worst affected by the disease.

The national capital, Delhi, is just a couple of cases behind the 8 thousand mark as per the update on Thursday morning.
