Pak’s victory triggers tension in Kodagu, Shivamogga; saffronists thrash youth

Madikeri/Shivamogga, Jun 20: Tension prevailed for some time in remote areas of Kodagu and Shivamogga districts of Karnataka following the victory of Pakistan against India in the finals of the Champions Trophy. india

Based on a complaint of Sangh Parivar activists, the Kodagu police have arrested four persons on charge of celebrating Pakistan’s victory. Riyaz, Samad, Munir and Jabir of Elane Hosakote are the arrested. Riyaz is the son of Elane Hosakote Gram Panchayat vice president Kunhi Kutti.

According to sources, a group of saffron activists thrashed the four before handing them over to police. The saffron activists claimed that the four youths came on their scooters and in a Maruti van, burst fire crackers and raised victory slogans at seventh Hosakote Junction around 10.30 p.m.

As the news spread, hundreds of Hindutva activists assembled in front of the police station on Monday morning and urged the police to file sedition case against the accused. BJP district president B B Bharatish, Vishwa Hindu Parishat district general secretary D Narasimha and others submitted a written complaint to the PSI in this regard.

When the saffron activists attempted to stage a protest at Kannada Circle, Kushalnagar DySP Sampat Kumar and Circle Inspector Kyate Gowda spoke to the protestors and promised to register an FIR under IPC Sections 153B and 295A.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed for a while at Melinakuruvalli near Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district on Monday, after a local youth reportedly posted congratulatory message to Pakistan.

Jabi Qureshi, a resident of Melinakuruvalli, reportedly posted a message on his Facebook wall that “we are champions”.

There are numerous England supporters in India but no one is against them! Can we support France in football when French had looted and invaded India? Why do Indians support Brazil or France or Germany in FIFA when Indian team is not playing in it? Indians only need to support Kabbadi instead... Come on guys, just keep aside your enemity atleast in sports.. Support whichever team you like..

They should not have celebrated Pak win openly...if at their home does not matter but not openly....their soldiers are killing our innocent soldiers....

Cheering for a team of enemy country, Celebrating the victory of enemy country against our own country is not at all justified. We all Indians should be ONE against such country in any activity. There is hard feeling or soft feeling PERIOD.

Are we going to celebrate victory of Bangladesh against India??? No one does that. Then, why Pakistan???

Recent train journey of Karnataka man who died of COVID-19 triggers govt alert

Bengaluru, Mar 27: A 65-year-old coronavirus patient who died in Karnataka this morning after apparently contracting the infection on a train ride has raised concern about community transmission of the highly contagious disease.
The man, the 60th coronavirus patient in Karnataka, died in Tumakuru. It is not known for certain how he caught the virus. The Karnataka Health Department has posted a notice on Twitter asking whoever travelled with him on train to come forward.

He had no history of recent foreign travel but had apparently traveled to Delhi on March 5 by Sampark Kranti Express and returned on March 11.

On March 7, he arrived at Delhi's Nizamuddin station and participated in an event at Jamia Masjid.

The man took a train back on March 11 and arrived at Yeshwantpur in Bengaluru. From there, he took a bus on March 14 to his hometown Sira.

He first showed symptoms of COVID-19 on March 18 and was taken to a private hospital. He was sent home with medicines but his condition worsened.

On March 23, he was admitted to a district hospital, but checked himself out against all advice and went to a private hospital. When his health showed signs of deterioration, he was again sent to the district hospital, where he tested positive for coronavirus yesterday. He died around 10.30 am today.

The health department has since traced 24 people who came in direct contact with him and are so, in the high-risk category. Thirteen are in hospital and eight have tested negative.

"All passengers who had travelled with him on the train are being traced," K Rakesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Tumakuru, was quoted as telling news agency ANI.

A 70-year old woman and a 76-year old man had died of coronavirus or COVID-19 earlier in Karnataka.

India has over 700 coronavirus cases, including 17 deaths.

Gangster Ravi Poojary sent to police custody till March 7

Bengaluru, Feb 24: Wanted gangster Ravi Poojary, who was arrested in South Africa and brought to India, was on Monday sent to police custody till March 7 by a Bengaluru court.

First Additional City Magistrate V Jagdish, while sending Pujari to police custody, said that there should be no interference in the investigations.

The court also asked the police to record video and audio of the interrogation process.

Poojary, who was wanted in over 200 cases of serious crime including murder and extortion, was brought to India by a team of senior officials and arrived at the Kempegowda International Airport here.

Pujari was extradited from Senegal on February 22 pursuant to an extradition request made by India in early 2019.

"He is physically fit. Questioning will begin from tomorrow. He is supporting our investigation and answering questions," Additional Director-General of Police Amar Kumar Pandey told reporters here earlier today.

Poojary, who parted ways with underworld don Chhota Rajan had jumped bail after he was arrested in Senegal in 2019 and had escaped to South Africa, where he was involved in drug trafficking and extortion.

According to sources in the Indian intelligence, Ravi Pujari was hiding with a false identity of Anthony Fernandes, a Burkina Faso passport holder, in a remote village in South Africa.
