Udupi, Aug 20: Vishwesha Tirtha Swami, spiritual leader of Hindus and chief pontiff of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt will undergo surgical procedure for hernia at the Kasturba Hospital in Manipal on Sunday.
Raghuram Acharya, Dewan of Pejawar Mutt, last night said that the seer will leave for the hernia operation after completing the ‘Maha Pooja’ at the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple around 10 a.m. on Sunday. During Vishwesha Tirtha’s absence, Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, junior seer of Pejawar Mutt, will conduct the “poojas” at the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple, he said.
Vishwesha Tirtha had already visited the Kasturba Hospital for medical check-up on Saturday after the “Maha Pooja” at 10 a.m. and returned to the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple at 1 p.m., he said.
Though tradition bars the Paryaya seer from leaving the Car Street during the two-year Paryaya tenure, this was a special case involving the health of the seer, hence he had to leave the Car Street, Mr. Acharya said.
