Chikkamangaluru, Nov 25: The Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike (KKSV) will organise a state convention at Subhash Chandra Bose district stadium, here on December 28 and 29.

Speaking at a preparatory meeting at Ambedkar Bhavan here , Vedike secretary K L Ashok said like-minded people, including the Sufi saints from Rajasthan, will take part in the convention. The members of Dalit, farmers' and women associations will also participate, he added.

He stated that Human Rights activist Gowri Lankesh's sacrifice will not go waste and the forum will continue the fight launched by her.

Ashok said that the government has not been able to nab the culprits of her murder even after three months of the brutal incident.

KKSV Convener Gause Mohiyuddin said that there is a need to create a secure atmosphere in the Baba Budangiri shrine (Datta Peetha) for the people of all beliefs. People belonging to all religions should be allowed to perform their rituals at the holy shrine, he demanded.

Raitha Sangha spokesperson K Krishnegowda suggested the forum to conduct conventions in rural areas and enlighten youths who have been made scapegoats by political parties.

JD(S) state secretary HH Devaraj, Dalit Sangharsh Samiti district coordinator K C Vasanth Kumar and city committee coordinator Nagaraj were present.

Dakshina Kannada | Rare white Albino Python enters house, shifted to zoo

Bantwal, Jun 5: A very rare white python, which had entered a house at Kavalakatte in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada, was caught by snake catcher Snake Kiran on Friday handed over to the authorities of Pilikula Nisargadhama.

This extremely rare white coloured python known as Albino was seen in the house of one Naushad.

The occupants of the house as well as residents of the area were panicky over seeing it.

Later a friend of Naushad informed Snake Kiran who caught it and handed over to the care of Pilikula as per the advice of forest officer Sridhar.

Man arrested under Wildlife Protection Act for biting snake to death in Karnataka

Kolar, May 7: A 38-year-old man has been arrested for biting a snake and peeling off its skin at Mustur village in Kolar district of Karnataka.

Mulbagal range forest officer KN Ravikeerthi said forest officials nabbed Kumar, a construction worker, at Mustur on Wednesday and booked him under the Wildlife Protection Act. He was under the influence of alcohol.

Ravikeerthi said Kumar's offence is non-bailable and attracts a jail term of up to three years. The remains of the snake were collected and sent to a lab to ascertain its species. Forest officials said the snake Kumar bit was not a viper as was reported earlier but a rat snake.

On Tuesday, Kumar was riding back home after buying liquor when the snake ca me under his bike's wheels. He tossed the injured snake around his neck, bit it and peeled off its skin. Kumar said the snake had troubled him in the past.

Mangaluru: 22-yr-old photographer drowns in river

Mangaluru, May 10: A young photographer has drowned in River Phalguni near Maravoor on the outskirts of the city.

The victim has been identified as Kaushik, 22, who was working for Diya Studio in Kavoor. A resident of Kavoor, he was the only son of his mother.

The tragedy occurred when he had been to the river along with four friends to collect freshwater snails.

It is learnt that local residents rushed to the spot when Kaushik’s friends raised alarm. However, they could not rescue him.

Kaushik’s body was retrieved from the water after sometime. A case has been registered at Kavoor police station.
