People from Jammu being brought for PM's Srinagar rally: Omar

Omar-Abdullah1Srinagar, Dec 9: Taking a swipe at BJP, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today (Dec 8) accused it of bringing in supporters from other parts of the state for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Srinagar.

"2 (two) trainloads of supporters are being brought in from Banihal in Jammu. Why not just have the rally there?" Omar wrote on Twitter, ahead of Modi's maiden election rally in Srinagar.

"Not a single BJP flag or banner on the vehicles or with the people I saw walking into the stadium. Such a telling sign of BJP support," Omar said in another tweet.

Omar's official residence is close to the venue of the rally.

The Chief Minister also hit out at Congress, which was coalition partner of his National Conference for the last six years, saying even some leaders supported by Congress have been asked to provide people for the rally.

"Amazingly even Cong(ress) supported 'leaders' have been asked to contribute people to the BJP rally. Politics makes for strange bedfellows," he said.

Omar was apparently referring to Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir, who joined the cabinet in 2009 from Congress quota, though he had contested the 2008 elections as an independent candidate.

Congress has not fielded any candidate from Gulmarg Assembly seat, where Mir is seeking a third consecutive term.

The Chief Minister also claimed that separatist-turned mainstream politician Sajjad Gani Lone, who is contesting the assembly elections from Handwara in Kupwara district, had provided 80 vehicles for ferrying his supporters for the Prime Minister's rally in Srinagar.

"So @sajadlone is sending about 80 vehicles of supporters from Kupwara to help his "big brother" make up the numbers," he added.

Jan 30: BJP leader and West Bengal party head, Dilip Ghosh has yet again made a controversial statement. He said that one has to go to jail in order to gain respect or become a political leader.

"You will not be a leader if you don't go to jail, if Police don't take you, then you must go there yourself. If they don't give you any scope, you do something to go to jail, only then will people respect you. There is no place for soft people in politics," ANI quoted Ghosh as saying.

Earlier, Ghosh had triggered a controversy by saying that anti-CAA protestors in Assam and Uttar Pradesh were shot dead "like dogs", and similar punishment should be given to protestors in Bengal.

Ahmedabad, Aug 6: In a major incident, a fire broke out in a Covid-designated hospital in Ahmedabad killing eight coronavirus patients. The mishap occurred in the wee hours of Thursday.

All the victims were in the ICU ward, where the fire is said to have started. Officials said that they all died on the spot while 41 other patients were shifted to other hospitals following a rescue operation. One paramedic staff of the hospital who tried to douse the fire sustained burn injuries.  

Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, who is also the health minister, said that primary information has revealed that fire was caused by the short circuit in the ICU ward where eight patients were under treatment. 

He said that 41 other patients were shifted to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel hospital. The incident happened at Shrey Hospital in Navrangpura which is one of the Covid-19 designated hospitals. Over 300 patients have recovered at the hospital in the last two months.

Among the victims were five men and three women. They have been identified as Arif Mansuri, Narendra Shah, Manu Rami, Leelvati Shah, Navneet Shah, Jyoti Sindhi, Manu Rami and Ayesha Tirmizi  

Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Saddened by the tragic hospital fire in Ahmedabad. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Spoke to CM @vijayrupanibjp Ji and Mayor
@ibijalpatel Ji regarding the situation. Administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected."

Soon after the tweet, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani ordered a probe into the matter to be conducted by Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Home, Sangeeta Singh and ACS (Urban Development) Mukesh Puri. 

They have been asked to submit a report in three days. Meanwhile, the hospital building has been sealed for further investigation. 

The chief minister has ordered a report within three days.

New Delhi, May 21: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) to airport operators on Wednesday for recommencement of domestic flights from May 25 onwards, saying Aarogya Setu app is not mandatory for children below 14 years of age.

"Passengers shall compulsorily walk through screening zone for thermal screening at a designated place in the city side before entering the terminal building," the AAI said in its SOP, which has been accessed by news agency.

Airport operators must make appropriate arrangements for sanitisation of a passenger's baggage before his or her entry into the terminal building, said the SOP dated May 20.

The AAI manages more than 100 airports across the country. However, major airports like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are managed by private companies. 

Civil Aviation Minister had announced on Wednesday that domestic flight services would resume from May 25 onwards in a calibrated manner.
