Deoria, Sep 6: Chaos struck a gathering Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi addressed on Monday after people carried home cots the party had organised for a ‘khat sabha’ before launching a ‘kisan yatra’ in election-bound Uttar Pradesh.
Around 1,000 cots had been arranged for the event in Deoria’s Rudrapur district. There was no official announcement by the Congress about their distribution to the public.
Gandhi’s next stopover is Kushinagar, where another ‘khat sabha’ is scheduled.
“#ReplaceMovieNamesWithKhats” was trending on Twitter, with people posting photos of villagers carrying cots from the gathering soon after Gandhi concluded his speech. Visuals also showing an unruly crowd at the venue.

Speaking to supporters earlier, the Congress vice-president accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of a bias towards the rich. He said the PM wanted to waive off loans of the rich but wasn’t ready to do that for farmers.
Gandhi’s ‘khat sabha’ was part of the Congress campaign to end its 27-year exile from power in Uttar Pradesh. The ‘kisan yatra’ will cover 39 districts and 55 Lok Sabha constituencies of Uttar Pradesh.
