Petrol bombs seized from hostels at Banaras Hindu University

September 3, 2016

Varanasi, Sep 3: At least eight petrol bombs, dozens of iron rods, sticks, bricks, empty alcohol bottles and cigarette packets were recovered on Friday from different hostels of Banaras Hindu University following a search conducted after Wednesday night's violence at the campus, police said.

Police along with the BHU administration conducted searches at Acharya Narendra Dev, Birla and other hostels and sealed half-a-dozen of these hostels.

An investigation has also been launched to find how and why these bombs were kept and also their purpose. Meanwhile, BHU administration suspended 26 students for their alleged involvement in connection with Wednesday's violence and arson in the varsity campus and also formed a committee to probe and submit its report within a fortnight.

The petrol bombs were made in empty wine-beer bottles in which petrol was filled, police said.

An FIR has been registered against 175 students, including 25 identified and 150 unidentified students, at the Lanka police station following this incident.

FIR has been also registered against five junior doctors and four ward boys under various sections of IPC. The junior doctors of Trauma centre, who have been on strike since Thursday, called it off this evening even though medical services at Trauma centre and Sir Sunder Lal Hospital of BHU are in operation with senior doctors handling the patients.

District Magistrate Vijay Kiran Anand and SSP Akash Kulhary have ordered for opening of a new police outpost inside the trauma centre on the demand of doctors, who wanted security for themselves, complaining that scuffle breaks out quite often between the students and doctors.

A large number of police force and PAC personnel have been deployed in the BHU campus to prevent any fresh clashes between doctors and students. The two injured students, who were admitted in the hospital following the violence have now been discharged and their health condition was normal.

Violence erupted in BHU on Wednesday, with students resorting to arson and vandalism in the campus, after resident doctors and other staff at the trauma centre allegedly thrashed some students injuring six students.

As Kerala minister said, the temples in kerala are used as warehouses by RSS to store weapons.... Now the things are becoming clear, how the RSS is playing with the life of innocents, by storing weapons in Hostels, Temples, and placing meat in Nagabanas ....

Bengaluru, Feb 13: UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid quit the Boris Johnson government as part of a cabinet reshuffle unfolding on Thursday and has been replaced by Rishi Sunak, reports said.

Indian-descent Sunak, 39, who is married to Akshata, the daughter of Infosys co-founder N.R. Narayana Murthy, was Chief Secretary to the Treasury since July 2019.

An analyst with Goldman Sachs before joining politics in 2014, Sunak, whose grandparents were from Punjab and emigrated to the UK from east Africa, is MP from Richmond (Yorkshire). He was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Government in the Theresa May government.

Pakistani-descent Javid, who became the first Asian to become a Cabinet Minister when he was made Secretary of State of culture, Media and Sports in the David Cameron government in 2014 after stints as Economic Secretary to the Treasury (2012-13) and Financial Secretary (2013-14), was earlier the Home Secretary in the the Theresa May government.

He had then cleared absconding businessman Vijay Mallya's extradition to India in February last year following the decision by the Westminister Magistrates Court in December 2018.

Javid, who ran for Conservative Party leadership after May quit but lost to Boris Johnson, was made Chancellor by the later. In the reshuffle on Thursday, he was offered to retain his post if he fired all his advisors but declined and quit, the BBC reported.

Kozhikode, Jun 9: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter Veena T is all set to marry DYFI National President and CPM state committee member PA Muhammad Riyas on June 15. Interestingly, it's the second marriage for both.

Veena, the elder daughter of Pinarayi Vijayan and Kamala Vijayan, is an IT entrepreneur based in Bengaluru.

According to sources, the marriage will be a simple function in Thiruvananthapuram where only close relatives will participate. The marriage registration has already been done.

"It's only a private affair of two individuals," Riyas told media persons, reluctant to divulge more details.

The 44-year-old Muhammad Riyas started his political career with the Students Federation of India (SFI) and climbed up the rungs through DYFI. He had unsuccessfully contested against UDF's M K Raghavan from Kozhikode parliament constituency in 2009.

The son of retired IPS officer P M Abdul Khadar, Riyas is the familiar face of the left in primetime TV discussions, strongly articulating the CPM stance.

A law graduate, he had begun at the grassroots level and gradually worked his way up the ladder.

His marriage to Dr Sameeha Saithalavi, a former syndicate member of Calicut University, happened in 2002. The couple separated in 2015 and they have two sons aged 10 and 13.

The 40-plus Veena is MD of the IT firm Exalogic Solutions since 2014.

Prior to that, she was the CEO of RT Technosoft, a Thiruvananthapuram-based company owned by NRI industrialist Ravi Pillai. Before that, she had a six-year stint with Oracle. She has a son from her first marriage.

"They both were divorced for more than five years. They knew each other and the marriage decision was taken by them only. It's completely a private affair," said a DYFI leader.
