Petrol cheaper by Rs 2.43/litre, diesel by Rs 3.60

New Delhi, Aug 1: Petrol price was cut by Rs 2.43 per litre and diesel by Rs 3.60 a litre, the third reduction in rates this month, with effect from midnight on Friday.

petrol pricePetrol in Delhi will cost Rs 64.47 per litre from Saturday instead of Rs 66.90 at present, while a litre of diesel will cost Rs 46.12 as against Rs 49.72 currently, Indian Oil Corp (IOC) said in a statement.

Petrol and diesel prices were last cut by Rs 2 per litre each, excluding local sales tax, from July 16 but consumers in Delhi were robbed of the benefit as Arvind Kejriwal government raised VAT on the two fuels.

As a result, petrol price in Delhi went up by 28 paise a litre after considering a local government decision to hike VAT or sales tax on the fuel from 20 to 25%.

Rates of diesel, on which VAT was raised from 12.5% to 16.6%, saw a smaller reduction of 50 paise per litre.

Prior to this, the price of petrol was cut on July 1 by 31 paise per litre and diesel by 71 paise a litre.

"Prices of petrol and diesel were last revised on July 16, 2015. Since last price change, there has been a decrease in international prices of both petrol and diesel. INR-USD exchange rate has, however, depreciated during this period.

"Combined impact of both these factors warrants a downward revision in prices, the impact of which is being passed on to the consumers with this price decrease," the statement said.

State-owned fuel retailers -- IOC, Bharat Petroleum Corp (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) -- revise petrol and diesel prices on 1st and 16th of every month based on average imported cost and rupee-dollar exchange rate in the previous fortnight.

"The movement of prices in international oil market and Rupee-USD exchange rate shall continue to be monitored closely and developing trends of the market will be reflected in future price changes," the statement added.

New Delhi, May 3: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Sunday said that India's COVID-19 mortality rate of 3.2 per cent is the lowest in the world and over 10,000 coronavirus patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the disease so far.

"Today more than 10,000 COVID-19 patients have been discharged. Those still admitted at hospitals are on the road to recovery. If in last 14 days doubling rate was 10.5 days, then today it is around 12 days," the Minister told ANI after visiting Lady Hardinge Hospital.

"Our mortality rate of 3.2 per cent is the lowest in the world," he said.

With 2,644 more COVID-19 cases and 83 deaths in the last 24 hours, the number of people infected from coronavirus in the country has reached 39,980 including 1,301 deaths, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday.

Currently, there are 28,046 active cases while 10,633 COVID-19 positive patients have been cured/discharged.

New Delhi, June 13: A quarantine notice pasted outside former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s 3, Motilal Nehru Place residence has raised speculations among media and political circles.

According to reports, the daughter of a domestic help who works at Singh’s residence has tested positive. She and her family, who live in the servant quarters, have been quarantined.

Singh, who has not been keeping well for some time, is slowly getting active. Congress leaders said the former Prime Minister attended a meeting of the party’s consultative committee on Thursday through video conference.

Kota, Jan 4: Following the death of an infant in the morning, the death toll in JK Lon Hospital here has risen to 107, officials said on Saturday.

A three-member state government committee of doctors, who was sent to investigate the matter on December 23 and 24, found that Kota's JK Lone Hospital is short of beds and it requires improvement.

However, the committee gave a clean chit to the doctors for any lapses over the recent death of infants admitted there.

A Central government team reached the hospital on Saturday to take stock of the situation.

As per the government report, at least 91 infants lost their lives at the government hospital in December last year.

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to Chief Secretary of Rajasthan to submit a detailed report within 4 weeks about the steps being taken to address the issue.

The Commission also asked the Chief Secretary to ensure that such deaths of the children do not recur in future due to lack of infrastructure and health facilities at the hospitals.
