PFI calls TN police firing state terrorism, demands judicial investigation

Media Release

New Delhi, May 25: Popular Front of India General Secretary M. Mohammed Ali Jinnah in a statement, has condemned  police firing against protesters who were demanding the closure of the Sterlite Copper Unit in Thoothukudi district  of Tamil Nadu and called for a judicial inquiry into the incident that left at least 11 people dead.

“Evidences are emerging that the firing was preplanned and intended to kill protest leaders. People used their democratic right to take out protest rallies. There was no situation that warranted use of force on the part of police. Instead of accepting a genuine and just concern of people over severe  environmental pollution and taking  necessary measures to solve the problem, by using brutal measures and  killing people without even a warning, Tamil Nadu government has illustrated its  anti-people bias. We demand a judicial inquiry into the incident and compensation to the families of the victims. We also demand the permanent closure of the Thoothukkudi Unit of Sterlite Copper which possesses threat to people and environment.”

Criminal inaction by governments on the atrocities on Dalits and Minorities

Mohammed Ali Jinnah has also denounced the culpable silence and inaction of the central and state governments in the background of new incidents of anti-Dalith and anti-Muslim atrocities in the country.

Another round of horrific lynching and killing of Muslims and Dalits are taking place in various parts of the country especially in BJP Ruled states. In latest of the of dozens of Goraksha related atrocities,  On May 17, a man was killed and another left critically injured near Satna in Madhya Pradesh after a mob beat them up on mere “suspicion” of cow slaughter.  Before taking action on the murderers, Madhya Pradesh police has booked the victims for cow slaughter. In another incident on May 21, a Dalit couple was brutally attacked for refusing to clear garbage in Rajkot district of Gujarat. The husband was tied to a pole and beaten to death with metal rods by the mob. It was in last month that in Meerut a Dalit youth was shot dead for participating in Bharath Bandh. A situation has been created that, for Dalits and minorities in country, their very identity is sufficient reason to get publicly killed. He stated that while Central Government and BJP governments in the states continue to protect these communal criminals, it is the duty of the secular forces in the country to build up democratic resistance.

JNU “Islamic terrorism” course bigoted political interference in knowledge production

Popular Front general secretary M. Mohammed Ali Jinnah questioned the relevance and validity of the proposed course on “Islamic Terrorism” approved by Jawaharlal Nehru University Academic Council.

The course to be started by JNU on the controversial subject is part of the project of communalization of education undertaken by Modi government. Ever since present government came to power, they started inferring with education system of the country, replacing history with mythology and mixing superstitions with science. The proposed course links Islam, the religion of nearly 172 million Indians, with terrorism. This is a product of divisive Hindutva ideology and will only create more bias, divide and alienation Muslim minority in the national psyche for years to come. Mohammed Ali Jinnah cautioned that such political interference with knowledge production must be resisted both legally and academically.

New Delhi, Feb 5: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday expressed his suspicion over the government using force to clear the Shaheen Bagh stretch where an agitation has been ongoing for over 50 days against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

While speaking to ANI over the phone, Owaisi was asked that there are indications from the government that after February 8, Shaheen Bagh will be cleared.

In reply, he said, "Might be they will shoot them, they might turn Shaheen Bagh into Jallianwala Bagh. This might happen. BJP minister gave a statement to 'shoot a bullet'. The government must give an answer as (to) who is radicalising."

Further speaking about NPR and NRC, Owaisi said, "Government must give a clear cut answer that till 2024 NRC will not be implemented. Why are they spending Rs 3900 crore for NPR? I feel this way because I was a History student. Hitler during his reign conducted census twice and after that, he pushed the jews in a gas chamber. I don't want our country (to) go in that way."

Pulwama, May 28: A major incident of a vehicle-borne IED blast was averted by the timely input and action by Pulwama Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said.

According to sources, Pulwama Police got credible information last night about a terrorist moving with an explosive-laden car ready to blast at some location. They took out various parties of police and security forces and covered all possible routes keeping themselves and the police and security forces away from the road at safer locations.

The suspected vehicle came and a few rounds were fired towards it. A little ahead this vehicle was abandoned and the driver escaped in the darkness. On close look, the vehicle was seen to be carrying heavy explosives in a drum on the rear seat. Possibly more explosive would be fitted elsewhere in the vehicle, sources added.

The vehicle was kept under watch for the night. People in nearby houses were evacuated and the vehicle exploded in situ by the Bomb Disposal Squad as moving the vehicle would have involved serious threat, sources said.

The vehicle reportedly sports a number plate of a scooter registered somewhere in Kathua district of Jammu zone, sources added.

Raipur, May 25: A union minister was caught on camera issuing threats to district administration officials in Chhattisgarh saying that she “knows how to take people to a room and beat them with belts"

Officials were taken aback when Renuka Singh, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, delivered this dialogue during her visit to the quarantine centre at Balrampur, around 400 km from Chhattisgarh capital Raipur on Sunday.

Dilip Gupta, a resident of Balarampur district in Chhattisgarh, had accused the chief executive officer and tehsildar of the district panchayat of assaulting him in a quarantine centre in the area following a quarrel over shoddy facilities. Renuka Singh took cognizance of the matter and reached the quarantine centre to speak to Dilip Gupta.

The minister, on reaching the quarantine centre, received details of the incident from Gupta and his family and lashed out at the officials for "beating him up".

In a video, Renuka Singh is seen cautioning the officials to not think of BJP workers as "weak".

"Ye bhagwadhaari BJP ke karyakartao ko kamzor mat samajhna. Janpad me baithke aur aap tehsil me baith ke jo bhed-bhaav kar rahe hain BJP ke karyakartao ke sazth, bhool jaiye (Don't think of saffron-wearing BJP workers as weak. Forget the discrimination that you are showing towards BJP workers)," Renuka Singh said, lambasting the officials.

However, the minister did not stop there and went on to threaten the officials saying she knows how to 'thrash people with a belt'.

"Andheri kothri me le jaa ke na main belt khol ke thokna jaanti hu bohot acche se (I very well know how to lock people in a dark room and thrash them with a belt)," Renuka Singh can be heard saying in a video from the incident.

Dilip Gupta, who was put under quarantine after he recently arrived from Delhi, had reportedly complained about the quality of food and basic facilities in the centre and had even uploaded a video on social media over the same after officials failed to address his issues.
