PFI stages protest in Udupi against Uttara Kannada MP's anti-Islam remarks

Udupi, Mar 8: Protesting against the provocative remarks of Uttara Kannada MP and BJP leader Anant Kumar Hegde against Islam, the members of the Popular Front of India (PFI) staged a demonstration in front of the Clock Tower here on Monday.

Riyaz Farangipete, member of the State committee of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), said that Mr. Hegde's statement that terrorism could not be eliminated till Islam was existent, showed his anti-Muslim thinking. This statement was also against the spirit of the Constitution. Hence, legal action should be initiated against him, he said.

In order to protect the unity and integrity of the country, it was necessary to treat all religions and castes as equal. Elected representatives were expected to uphold the unity and integrity of the country and values of the Constitution. It was an ominous sign if they started giving such divisive statements were made.

Karnataka: Deputy CM inspects India's first modular ICU containers

Bengaluru, Jul 19: The Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwathnarayan on Saturday inspected the country's first modular Intensive Care Unit (ICU) containers.

A notice from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said that the new mobile modular container ICUs, which will be used in the fight against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, have been created by Rinac India Limited, known for setting up sanitised operation theatres and clean rooms in hospitals.

On a pilot basis, the Deputy CM, who is also in charge of setting up COVID-care centres, said that 10 modular container ICUs will be deployed at the KC General Hospital in Malleshwaram. Each of the containers will have five beds.

Deputy CM Ashwathnarayan also said, "These mobile ICUs donated by Rinac will be useful, particularly in times of a crisis like COVID 19 or any natural calamity."

"The entry of health officials will be through an airlock, and entry of patients will be through a different door. There will be two doors for patients and can be increased if need. ICUs are fitted with cameras to monitor online from a centralized monitoring station, thereby limiting the exposure of the health personnel," the CMO informed.

The CMO further added, "the advantages of this new system are that the prefabricated modules of 5 can be shifted to any location by trailers and it is easy to deploy multiple containers to create a common facility. They are easy to clean and the airtight functionality ensures that no moisture or heat ingression happens, hence, it is easy to air-condition or ventilate."

Child killed, family members injured as car overturns after hitting divider in Udupi

Udupi, Aug 1: A girl child died five persons suffered injuries in a car accident today on National Highway-66 near Ambalpady in Udupi.

According to sources, two couples and children were travelling in the car from Mangaluru to Shikaripura when the tragedy took place.

The speeding car rammed into the road divider and flipped over after the driver lost control over it near Ambalpady.

Among the injured, the condition of a woman is said to be critical. She has been admitted to KMC Hospital in Manipal. The other passengers escaped with minor injuries.

A case has been registered at Udupi town traffic police station and investigations are on. More details are awaited.

Movement and sale of chicken, eggs now allowed despite lockdown

Mangaluru, Mar 29: The state government has lifted the restrictions on the movement of chicken and eggs, thus ensuring the availability of protein-based nutrition to consumers.

Due to the 21-day lockdown in the State, police and other regulatory authorities were not allowing movement of poultry products, which not only had affected the entire poultry sector but also the consumers. The Karnataka Poultry Farmers and Breeders Association (KPFBA) had made a representation to the government to lift the restrictions.

The Secretary of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, A B Ibrahim in a circular dated March 27, 2020 night , said that the minimal husbandry sector came under essential services and is given exemption during the lockdown period. He cited the letter which provides for the exemption, issued by the Government of India Home Secretary and the Union Joint Secretary of Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
