PFI stages protest in Udupi against Uttara Kannada MP's anti-Islam remarks

Udupi, Mar 8: Protesting against the provocative remarks of Uttara Kannada MP and BJP leader Anant Kumar Hegde against Islam, the members of the Popular Front of India (PFI) staged a demonstration in front of the Clock Tower here on Monday.

Riyaz Farangipete, member of the State committee of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), said that Mr. Hegde's statement that terrorism could not be eliminated till Islam was existent, showed his anti-Muslim thinking. This statement was also against the spirit of the Constitution. Hence, legal action should be initiated against him, he said.

In order to protect the unity and integrity of the country, it was necessary to treat all religions and castes as equal. Elected representatives were expected to uphold the unity and integrity of the country and values of the Constitution. It was an ominous sign if they started giving such divisive statements were made.

Karnataka govt proposes to maintain Health database of citizens amid corona crisis

Bengaluru, May 5: The Karnataka government is planning to maintain a Health database of its citizens in the backdrop of experience gained from the COVID-19 pandemic, Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar said on Tuesday.

In a statement issued here, he said a “Health Register” will be maintained to keep track of all health issues of the people and the project will be implemented first in Chikkaballapur district on an experimental basis.

“COVID-19 has provided enough experience for all of us and therefore, there is a need to maintain health data of each person. The government will be undertaking a survey using a team of Primary Health Centre officials, Revenue officials, Education department staff and Asha Workers,” the Minister said in a release here.

Karnataka: Muslim youth set to become seer at Muruga Rajendra Mutt

Gadag, Feb 20: A 33-year-old Muslim man is all set to become a seer at Muruga Rajendra Mutt in Gadag.

Ordained by Sri Murugarajendra Koraneswara Swami of the mutt, Dewan Sharief Mullah claims he was taking the step not under any duress but after being "guided by the almighty".

"Nobody asked me to do it. The almighty came in my mind and guided me.... They have put the sacred thread and given me the responsibility. They have given me the 'Ishta-linga' and this honour. I have done the 'Ishta-linga dharan'. I will walk on the path of dharma. Love and sacrifice is the message given to me. That is what I want to propagate," he said.

Sri Murugarajendra Koraneswara Swami said, "It does not matter what caste you belong to. If God appears to you for a path of goodwill and sacrifice, you will do it regardless of the manmade restrictions of birth and caste."

Mangaluru to get 15 smart CCTV cameras in sensitive places

Mangaluru, Jan 5: To keep an hawk's eye on the city, 15 prominent and crowded junctions in the city will have the most advanced CCTV cameras installed under the Smartcity project.

The junctions are-- Bejai KSRTC, Pumpwell, Vamanjoor, Padil, Mullikatte, Bejai, Bendoor, Falnir, Morgans Gate, Kulashekara-Shakthinagar Cross, Kottara Chowki, Kuntikan, Rao & Rao Circle, Padavinangady and Kavoor junctions.

According to top police officials, these junctions will receive approximately 75 cameras to check crime and aid in solving the cases of murder and robbery in the city.

A ‘smartpole’ will be installed there with each pole containing about five cameras along with a 360 degree swivelling camera.
