Playing cricket much easier than facing the camera: Sachin Tendulkar

Mumbai, Apr 15: Facing the camera for his soon-to-be-released biopic has been more challenging than standing up to the fastest bowlers in the world and scoring runs, said cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar in Mumbai on Thursday.

sachin"For so many years, I did whatever I wanted to do and the camera captured that. Suddenly I was asked to do particular things and then the camera captured that, so it was a bit different for me. Believe me, the first option was better," said Tendulkar at a function in Mumbai, where he was announced as the face of the inaugural IDBI Federal Life Insurance Mumbai Half Marathon, scheduled to be held on August 21.

"Acting is not something that I dreamt of. Without any doubt, acting was more challenging than playing cricket. I enjoyed playing more," added Tendulkar, who played 200 Test matches before retiring in November, 2013.

Tendulkar, 42, is making his acting debut with the biopic, 'Sachin: A Billion Dreams', which has been directed by award-winning British director James Erskine.

The former India skipper, who was also announced as the face of other half marathons -- Delhi and Kolkata -- by the life insurance firm, hailed the long distance runners, some of whom were present on the occasion.

"I would like to congratulate you all. I fully understand the sacrifices you make. In marathon every second matters. It comes once a while for which you prepare yourself, control your diet, push each other in a healthy competition. Healthy competition brings out the best results.

"If you lead a healthy lifestyle overall the result is better. You are able to achieve your target whether you are a doctor, engineer or sportsman. My grandmother used to say health is your real wealth, so look after your health. By running if you can keep yourself fit, then why not (run)."

He also recalled his younger days when his coach Ramakant Achrekar made him train and play from morning till dusk.

Jan 2: A young filmmaker was allegedly assaulted by an acquaintance during an argument over CAA-NRC in neighbouring Salt Lake City, police said on Wednesday.

The police have arrested the accused following a complaint by the filmmaker.

According to a senior police officer, the argument over the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC) began following a social media post by the filmmaker.

The accused allegedly went to the house of the filmmaker on Monday night and picked up an argument, which led to a scuffle.

"During the scuffle, the accused attacked the filmmaker with a knife," the senior police officer said, adding that the accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Chennai, Feb 10: The Income Tax Department on Monday summoned Tamil actor Vijay over charges of tax evasion and his alleged links with financier Anbu Chezhiyan.

The development comes after the IT Department on Friday carried out a raid at the actor's residence in Panaiyur area in Chennai.

IT sleuths held searches in connection with the success of a recent film which was a Box Office hit, collecting around Rs 300 crore.

As per sources, the IT Department on Thursday recovered Rs 65 crores from the residence of Vijay's alleged financer in Chennai during raids which were carried out in the connection with the tax evasion case linked to AGS Cinemas.

Los Angeles, Mar 6: Filmmaker-writer Taika Waititi is set to direct two animated series based on Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" for Netflix.

Waititi, who won an Academy Award in February for his adapted screenplay, "Jojo Rabbit", will also serve as the writer and producer on the animated series.

According to Deadline, the first series will be based on the world of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", while the second will be an original take on the Oompa-Loompa characters from the book.

The Oompa-Loompas are little humans who were preyed upon in Loompaland before Wonka invited them to work at his chocolate factory. They are paid in cocoa beans and love practical jokes and singing songs.

Netflix said the animation series would "retain the quintessential spirit and tone of the original story while building out the world and characters far beyond the pages of the Dahl book for the very first time."

The series will follow in the footsteps of Gene Wilder's 1971 portrayal of Willy Wonka and Johnny Depp's 2005 interpretation.
