PM Modi calls upon youth to work for modern India

New Delhi, Sept 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday pitched for innovation and promotion of skills among youth and asked them to work for a modern India.

“The world evaluates the country where it is today not what it was 5,000 years ago or during the times of Lord Rama or Buddha,” he said at an event marking the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s address at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago.

Vivekananda supported experimentation and innovation and the NDA government was working according to the ideals shown by him, Mr. Modi said.

The Prime Minister referred to Vivekananda’s address as 09/11 and pointed to the terror attack in the United States on September 11, 2001. The devastating terror strike might not have happened if the significance of the other 09/11 was not forgotten.

Vivekananda, Mr. Modi said, had given the message of love and brotherhood.

Mr. Modi used the occasion to speak against people who litter. He said those who do so have no right to say ''Vande Mataram''.

he crowd intermittently shouted ''Vande Mataram'' as the Prime Minister spoke.

Lauding sanitation and cleaning workers, he said they have the first right to say ''Vande Mataram''.

Mr. Modi asked colleges to hold cultural events to celebrate other States and added in a light-hearted vein that he was not against celebrating days like ‘rose day’.

Students should do more. They should hold a 'Tamil day' in a Haryana college or a 'Kerala day' in a Punjab college.

“There is no better place for creativity and innovation than university campuses... There is no life without creativity. Let our creativity also strengthen our nation & fulfil the aspirations of our people,” he said.

India’s standing in the world had risen, he said, crediting ‘jan shakti’  (people’s power) for this.

New Delhi, May 7: Food ordering and delivery platform Swiggy on Thursday said its co-founder and CTO Rahul Jaimini will move away from active role in the company during the month to pursue another entrepreneurial venture.

Jaimini will be joining Pesto Tech, a career accelerator start-up, as their co-founder, Swiggy said in a statement.

He will continue to be a shareholder and board member of Swiggy, it added.

Functions currently led by Rahul, including platform engineering, analytics, IT and labs, will be realigned to Dale Vaz, Head of Engineering and Data Science, who has been with the company for close to two years, the statement said.

"Technology was crucial to what we set out to build when we started Swiggy. Nandan (Reddy) and I could not have asked for a better partner to handle this aspect of the company," Swiggy co-founder and CEO Sriharsha Majety said.

It was Rahul's immense passion to 'build for the billions' that drove technological innovations that set Swiggy apart as we grew phenomenally over the years, he added.

"Working with technology that has large scale impact is what excites me, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to do just this at Swiggy and grow tremendously over the years," Jaimini said.

New Delhi, Aug 2: BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Sunday said the Women's IPL or the Challenger series, as it is better known, is "very much on", ending speculation about the parent body not having a plan for Harmanpreet Kaur and her team.

The men's IPL will be held between September 19 and November 8 or 10 (final date yet to be locked in) in the UAE due to the surge in Covid-19 cases in India. The women's IPL will also be fit in to the schedule, according to the BCCI chief.

"I can confirm to you that the women's IPL is very much on and we do have a plan in place for the national team also," Ganguly told PTI ahead of the IPL Governing Council meeting later on Sunday.

The BCCI president, who is awaiting a Supreme Court verdict on waiver of the cooling-off period to continue in the position, did not divulge details but another senior official privy to the development said that women's Challenger will be held during the last phase of IPL like last year.

"The women's Challenger series is likely to be held between November 1-10 and there could be a camp before that," the source said.

The former India captain also said that the centrally contracted women players will have a camp which has been delayed due to the prevailing situation in the country.

"We couldn't have exposed any of our cricketers -- be it male or female to health risk. It would have been dangerous," Ganguly said.

"The NCA also remained shut because of Covid-19. But we have a plan in place and we will have a camp for women, I can tell you that," he added.

The BCCI's cricket operations team is chalking up a schedule where Indian women are likely to have two full-fledged white-ball series against South Africa and the West Indies before playing the ODI World Cup in New Zealand.

Bengaluru, Feb 27: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said that the situation is moving towards normalcy in Delhi after recent incidents of violence.

"Situation is moving towards normalcy," Rajnath told media here.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Narendra Singh Bundela on Thursday said that the law and order and traffic situation in violence-affected parts of Delhi is normal.

"The situation is quite normal and peaceful as far as security and traffic are concerned. We have held talks and conducted patrols with people of all communities. Services such as road cleaning have resumed and traffic flow is normal," Bundela told ANI here.

"People can go out to get their daily needs from the market but we are advising them not to come out in groups," he added.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the incidents of violence in North-East Delhi has risen to 34.

Delhi Police has registered 18 FIRs and 106 people have been arrested in connection with the violence.
