Lucknow, Dec 10: Soon after the poll results of five state assemblies on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch his aggressive election campaign for 2019 from Rae Bareli — the parliamentary constituency of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on December 16.

Though the PM's visit will be to flag off the 900 newly-built coaches at Modern Rail Coach Factory at Lalganj in the district, senior BJP leaders monitoring the preparation work on ground said that the "official trip" to the eastern UP city will be a clear message to party workers for an intense electoral campaign.

After Rae Bareli, the prime minister will visit Prayagraj (Allahabad) on the same day for monitoring the Kumbh preparations. Later in the month on December 29, Mr Modi will also be visiting his constituency of Varanasi and address a Rajbhar rally in eastern UP town of Ghajipur.

Uttar Pradesh, civil Aviation and Registration minister and minister in-charge of Rae Bareli Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi told UNI here on Monday that PM during his brief visit will address a public meeting in Rae Bareli after flagging off the 900 newly built coaches at the Modern Rail coach factory.

He said over 3 lakh people will attend the PM's rally in Rae Bareli for which preparation has already begun.

Having faced an aggressive resurgent, Congress in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh, BJP leadership realises that 'Road to 2019' is not easy. Party will also be faced with a formidable challenge in UP, as BSP and SP look all set for an electoral alliance.

In this backdrop, BJP's top leadership, especially party president Amit Shah and PM Modi, probably want to keep the cadre high in spirit, and the Rae Bareli visit fits right into that perspective. Thus, giving out a message that party is neither on the defensive nor lacking in aggression.

BJP spokesperson Dr Chandra Mohan, however, said, "No constituency or area is anyone's personal fiefdom. Rae Bareli and Amethi had lacked on development for decades."

He further said, "Prime Minister's visit to the town is in tune to our promise of bringing development back to this region,"

Meanwhile, sources said PM Modi will also talk about the corruption charges surrounding the Gandhi family in his public address, the glimpses of which we had seen during his speeches for Vidhan Sabha elections recently.

Early next year in January, PM Modi will be attend the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas in Varanasi and will visit Kumbh as a devotee.

Jun 13: Requiring the wearing of masks to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus in areas at the epicenter of the global pandemic may have prevented tens of thousands of infections, a new study suggests.

Mask-wearing is even more important for preventing the virus' spread and the sometimes deadly COVID-19 illness it causes than social distancing and stay-at-home orders, researchers said, in the study published in PNAS: The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA.

Infection trends shifted dramatically when mask-wearing rules were implemented on April 6 in northern Italy and April 17 in New York City - at the time among the hardest hit areas of the world by the health crisis - the study found.

"This protective measure alone significantly reduced the number of infections, that is, by over 78,000 in Italy from April 6 to May 9 and over 66,000 in New York City from April 17 to May 9," researchers calculated.

When mask-wearing went into effect in New York, the daily new infection rate fell by about 3% per day, researchers said. In the rest of the country, daily new infections continued to increase.

Direct contact precautions - social distancing, quarantine and isolation, and hand sanitizing - were all in place before mask-wearing rules went into effect in Italy and New York City. But they only help minimize virus transmission by direct contact, while face covering helps prevent airborne transmission, the researchers say.

"The unique function of face covering to block atomization and inhalation of virus-bearing aerosols accounts for the significantly reduced infections," they said. That would indicate "that airborne transmission of COVID-19 represents the dominant route for infection."

The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday urged organizers of large gatherings that involve "shouting, chanting or singing to strongly encourage the use of cloth face coverings to lower the risk of spreading the coronavirus."

Thiruvananthapuram, May 24: Keralites on Sunday celebrated a low-key Eid-ul-Fitr amid the coronavirus lockdown in the state as most of the faithful marked the culmination of the fasting month of Ramzan by offering thanksgiving prayers at home.

The festival is being celebrated across Kerala and Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, while the rest of the country will celebrate Eid on Monday.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan extended Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to all Keralites across the world.

State Governor Arif Mohammed Khan also extended his festival wishes to all the Keralites.

"May we also have the blessing to prevent and eliminate the COVID-19 disease," Khan tweeted.

Vijayan said this year Ramzan is celebrated at a time when the world is going through "an unprecedented crisis and misery" because of pandemic COVID-19.

"Usual celebration during Ramzan is not there anywhere in the world due to the pandemic. Instead of offering prayers at mosques, which is important for Muslims, this time the prayers and the feast is performed in their homes.

Community leaders have taken this important decision to protect the interests of the society" he added.

The chief minister said Eid-ul-Fitr gives out a message of equality, tolerance and repentance.

The state government had earlier announced that the lockdown restrictions in the state onSunday will be relaxed in the view of Eid-ul-Fitr with shops selling essential items remaining open.

The State government had earlier declared that a complete shutdown would be observed in Kerala on Sundays in order to contain the spread of the deadly virus.
