PM Modi's words are worth nothing, hits out Siddaramaiah

Koppal Feb 28: “Prime Minister Modi's words are worth nothing. I have not come across a PM who speaks so lowly," hit out Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in Koppal on Wednesday.

"Before becoming PM, he used to refer to himself as a chowkidar (guard). Where was this chowkidar (PM) when Lalit Modi and Nirav Modi fled the country? They have fled with the protection of Prime Minister Modi," the chief minister alleged in response to the PM's statement that the Karnataka government is a 'seedha rupaiya sarkar'.

He mocked the PM for seating BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa "who has taken bribe by cheque"; next to him, and accusing others of corruption.

The government is not obliged to give accounts to BJP national president Amit Shah, he added. "By submitting the budget, we have presented accounts to the people," the CM claimed.

Rahul Gandhi had not called a meeting of Mahadayi activists. Minister Vinay Kulkarni had promised Mahadayi activists audience with Rahul Gandhi. But the AICC president himself was not aware of this. So Rahul left for the airport without meeting them," Siddaramaiah clarified in response to questions for scribes.

How can Yeddyurappa, who as CM, refused to waive farmers' loans and ordered a shoot-at-sight on farmers at Haveri, be farmer-friendly?

"When farmers asked for a loan waiver, Yeddyurappa had reacted saying that the BJP did not have a currency note printing machine," Siddaramaiah recalled.

Udupi, June 30: A girl who appeared for SSLC exams in three subjects tested positive for COVID-19 in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district today.

Sheshashayana Karinja, Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) said that the 15-year-old girl had a headache and her parents took her for testing and she had tested positive for COVID-19.

She will appear for the remaining three subjects during the supplementary exams in August.

The room where the girl appeared for the exam had been sanitised. But exams would not be held in that room. All precautions have been taken in that exam centre in Kundapur taluk, Mr. Karinja said.

The other 19 students will be allowed to write their exams as there was a distance of one metre between them and there was no contact between the students during the exams, Mr. Karinja added.

It is learned that a couple of months ago, a Mumbai returnee who recovered from COVID-19 had visited the girl’s house. However, it is not clear that she got an infection from the Mumbai returnee.

It could be recalled here that a student from Hejamadi in Udupi district who was preparing for the Science exam had tested positive two days back and she is currently being treated at a hospital.

Assan, Feb 9: Coming down heavily on Amit Shah, JDS supremo HD Deve Gowda said that the Union Home Minister is dreaming of a Hindu nation. Addressing the crowd at an anti-CAA/NRC rally in Hassan, he said that the Home Minister has forgotten that India is a secular, multi-lingual country.

“Shah cannot make India into a Hindu nation. People should come forward and oppose the Acts in the interest of peace and welfare of the nation,” the former PM said, urging secular leaders to unite and fight against the undemocratic policies put forth by the Centre.

“Only secular forces can protect minorities by taking to the streets,” he said. Talking about the controversy around former Union minister Anant Kumar Hegde’s statements, Gowda said BJP leaders are airing anti-national comments, which is disturbing peace. “Muslims, Christians and Hindus should unite to fight against the BJP’s unilateral decisions.”
