Hubballi, Dec 26: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must intervene and resolve the Mahadayi river water sharing dispute between Karnataka and Goa.

He was speaking to reporters here in Hubbali, on Tuesday.

Siddaramaiah again, expressed displeasure over the fact that Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had written to Karnataka BJP President B S Yeddyurappa, that he was willing to hold talks; and not to him.

"As Parrikar has written to BSY and not me, the letter has no legal value. Both Goa and Centre are enacting a political drama," Siddaramaiah maintained.

Reacting strongly to Yeddyurappa's remarks on Monday, that the Assembly should be dissolved and the CM should declare elections, Siddaramaiah asked,"Is Yeddyurappa the election commissioner? People have given us a mandate for five years. Let BJP meet us in May during the polls,"

Bundh in four districts

Mallaprabha, Mahadayi, Kalasa-Banduri Raitha Horata Samiti has called a bundh protesting the delay of the two state governments and the nonchalance of the Centre, in resolving the Mahadayi deadlock.

The bundh has been called in Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag and Bagalkote districts on December 27 from 6 am to 6 pm. If the bundh fails to persuade politicos to action, a dharna would be held in front of the parliamentarians of the region, Samiti leaders informed.

Chamrajnagar, May 30: Karnataka Cabinet Minister Ramesh Jarakiholi said on Friday that over22 Congress MLAs were in touch with him and he can bring five of them.

"More than 22 Congress MLAs are in contact with me and if the high commands wants, I can bring five of them tomorrow," Jarakiholi told reporters.

Replying on speculation that some MLAs in BJP are not happy and want to join the Congress, he said, "Congress is a sinking boat and nobody wants to go to Congress now."

Meanwhile, sources in BJP have said that some party leaders are not happy including Basangouda Ramangouda Patil Yatnal.

Basvanagowda Patil said earlier this week that "BS Yediyurappa is not his CM, he is the CM of Karnataka. My leaders are Narendra Modi and JP Nadda."

The sources also said that other close aides of Yeddyurappa like Umesh Katti and Murugesh Nirani are no longer happy with him as they are yet to be included in the state cabinet.

The sources said Nirani has stood with Yeddyurappa but has not been included in the cabinet. There is speculation that several MLAs are in touch with Nirani.

Sources said Nirani, Umesh Katti, Basvanagowda Patil and several other leaders held a meeting in an undisclosed location.

Congress leader DK Suresh said the Congress has no role in the developments in BJP. "Yeddyurappa government will be brought down by their own MLAs. Congress has no role in it," he said.

Kottayam, Mar 16: A trial court in Kerala  on Monday dismissed a discharge petition filed by Bishop Franco Mulakkal, in connection with the case of alleged rape of a nun in which he is the prime accused.

In his plea filed before the Additional District and Sessions Court I, Mulakkal had claimed that prima facie there was no case to frame charges against him.

Dismissing the plea, the trial court said the bishop should stand for trial in the rape case.

The bishop's lawyer said an appeal would be filed in the High Court against the trial court order.

The prosecution had filed its objection to the plea filed by the bishop, accused of raping and sexually assaulting a nun of the same diocese.

The bishop had filed the plea just ahead of commencement of the preliminary hearing on charges against him in January this year.

The case is based on a complaint filed against the bishop by the nun.

In her complaint to the police in June, 2018, the nun had alleged that she was subjected to sexual abuse by the bishop during the period between 2014 and 2016.

The bishop, who was arrested by the Special Investigation Team which probed the case, has been charged with wrongful confinement, rape, unnatural sex and criminal intimidation.
