PM Narendra Modi departs for Ireland, US

New Delhi, Sep 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday left on a visit to Ireland and the US.

"Working westward. PM @narendramodi departs on a 2 nation, 3 city visit to Ireland & the US, will address the @UN," tweeted external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup.

ModiModi will spend Wednesday in Ireland where he will hold discussions with Prime Minister Enda Kenny. He will depart for New York the same evening for the US leg of his tour.

The Irish prime minister will host a working lunch in honour of Modi, who will be the first Indian prime minister to visit Ireland in almost 60 years.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to review bilateral relations between the two countries as well as discuss regional and global matters of mutual interest.

Both countries have traditionally had cordial and friendly relations going back to the time of India's freedom movement.

"The present visit will provide an excellent opportunity to bolster economic relations between the two countries as there are clear complementarities between our flagship programmes, in particular 'Skill India' and 'Digital India' programmes and Ireland's proven educational institutions.

The visit will also provide an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss global issues particularly in the context of the upcoming UN session which both prime ministers will be attending.

India and Ireland will explore possibilities of working together in the multilateral fora on global challenges including climate change, poverty alleviation, sustainable development goals, environment and disarmament.

Ireland also has a 26,000-strong Indian community. Engagement with the diaspora provides another commonality between India and Ireland, which has a 70-million strong diaspora spread across the world.

In New York City, Modi will address the UN Sustainable Development Summit for formal adoption of post-2015 new sustainable development agenda.

He will also visit the West Coast on September 26-27 and participate in several programmes.

New Delhi, Apr 15: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the extension of COVID-19 lockdown till May 3, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday issued consolidated revised guidelines on measures to be taken by Ministries and Departments of Government of India, state and Union Territory governments and authorities for the containment of COVID-19.

As per the guidelines, all domestic and international air travel of passengers (except for security purposes), passenger movement by trains (except for security purposes), buses for public transport, metro rail services will remain prohibited.

It stated that all educational, training, coaching institutions etc. shall remain closed. Inter-district and inter-state movement of individuals except for medical reasons or for activities permitted under guidelines shall remain prohibited.

Taxis (including auto-rickshaws and cycle rickshaws) and services of cab aggregators to remain prohibited until May 3.

Also, all cinema halls, malls, shopping complexes, gymnasiums, sports complexes, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres, bars and auditoriums, assembly halls and similar places shall remain closed.

All social/political/sports/entertainment/academic/cultural/religious functions/other gatherings will also not be allowed.

"All religious places or places of worship shall be closed for public. Religious congregations are strictly prohibited. In the case of funerals, a congregation of more than 20 persons will not be permitted," the guidelines stated.

New Delhi, Mar 19: Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi took oath as Rajya Sabha MP on Thursday.

Gogoi's wife Rupanjali Gogoi, daughter, and son in law were also present in Parliament.

Congress staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha over Gogoi's membership to the House.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Ravishankar Prasad welcomed Gogoi in the Rajya Sabha.

President Ram Nath Kovind had nominated the former CJI to the Rajya Sabha on March 16.

Gogoi served as the 46th Chief Justice of India from October 3, 2018, to November 17, 2019.

On November 9, 2019, a five-judge Bench headed by him had delivered the verdict in the long-pending Ramjanmabhoomi case.

People lost trust in Judiciary because of such horrible criminals.

 

He betrayed the whole nation. Unless he is booked, the judiciary will not restore the lost faith. 

 

 

The loss may be momentary in nature, It is the promise of the Almighty, He will ensure the justice is served to everyone.

Shirdi, Jan 18: The administrative body of Sai Baba's Samadhi calls for the indefinite closure of the Shirdi temple after Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray reportedly said Pathri in Parbhani is Sai Baba's birthplace.

"We have announced to close Shirdi against rumours from January 19," said B Wakchaure of Saibaba Sansthan Trust.

"A meeting of villagers will be convened Saturday evening to discuss the issue. Devotees will not face any difficulty if they come to Shirdi," Mr Wakchaure added.
