Police confirm death of five Keralites who allegedly joined IS

Kannur, Oct 28: The Kerala police have officially confirmed the death of five persons from the Kannur district who reportedly went to Syria allegedly to join the Islamic State (IS), a dreaded terror outfit which usually carries out attacks against Muslim countries.

The deceased have been identified as Shahnad (25) of Chalad, Rishal (30) of Valapattanam, T.V. Shameer (45) and his son Salman (20) of Pappinissery, and Shajir of Eachur (25).

Police said the deaths were confirmed after the questioning of five people who were arrested from the district in the past few days for their suspected links with the Islamic State.

Police said as many as 15 people from the district have joined the IS so far. U.K. Hamza, who was arrested on October 26, indoctrinated them to join the network. Some of them are still in Syria.

Belthangady, May 15: Carcases of more than 50 monkeys were found at Bandaru gram panchayat in the taluka here on Friday.

The carcasses were found on the Kundalapalke-Padmunja road in Bandar village. Locals had seen the monkeys’ carcasses night of Thursday and informed authorities about it.

Kaniyuru Health Centre’s medical assistant Swatantra Rao and Ujire health Centre’s Medical Officer, Forest Department staff, veterinarians and local Panchayat officials visited the spot.

Bengaluru, April 3: One new positive case of COVID-19 was reported in the state on Friday.

The patient is a 75-year-old man from Bagalkot and has been isolated at a designated hospital in Bagalkot, the State government said.

"Till date, 125 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the state, this includes three deaths and 11 discharges," it added.

The total number of coronavirus positive cases rose to 2301 in India on Friday, including 156 cured/discharged, 56 deaths and 1 migrated, as per the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Karwar, Mar 19: Four drug peddlers were arrested on Thursday and 2.68 Kg of brown sugar worth Rs 2 Crore was seized from them while they were smuggling the banned drug by road from Yellapura to Ankola.

Police identified the arrested persons as Narayan (35), Chandrahas Gunaga (29), Veerabhadra Hegade (43) and Praveen Bhat (30).

Police have registered a case and investigations are ongoing.
