Police constable assaults top official of Belagavi airport

Belagavi, Feb 18: Staff of Sambra airport here triggered to protest after police head constable deployed on airport duty allegedly assaulted the joint general manager of the airport on Wednesday noon following silly issue.belgaum

According to sources, Eshwarappa, head of infrastructure development activities at the airport was assaulted by the constable named Karlakoppa on the issue of removing barricades for car parking. Minor verbal clash turned violent enraging constable to slap the top official. Sub-inspector Manjula attempted hard to control the constable but in vain. Eshwarappa also worked as an airport controlled of Sambra airport earlier.

After the incident, staff of around 55 employees arrived to city and submitted memorandum to DC N Jayaram seeking action against the police constable and deploying decent police personnel on airport duty. DC gave them assurance of taking proper legal action and convinced not to go on strike further. DC said "I have talked with city police commissioner Saumendu Mukherjee on the matter".

Esharappa said entire incident has been recorded into CCTV camera. Police can initiate action based on camera footages. "First constable used filthy language against me and later assaulted. We don't want to disrupt daily activities of airport by going on strike. We also don't want to make this issue bigger. Just what we want is proper legal action against culprit and deploying decent police personnel at the airport where people of high statute visit", he said.

Later they visited to city police commissioner's office and waited for over an hour for commissioner as he was outside. Staff returned back to Sambra only after commissioner assured them about visiting the airport on Thursday and taking legal action against offender.

Bengaluru, Jul 16: Former Prime Minister and JDS supremo H D Devegowda on Thursday gave a clarion call to party workers to take steps to strengthen the party from the grossroots level and to 'expose the failures' and 'anti-people' policies of BJP government both at the Centre and State.

In an open letter to the workers here, he alleged that the urgent need is to create awareness among the people about failure of the governments which have brought in policies which are deterrent to the poor and downtrodden.

BJP government headed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa in Karnataka has come up with an amendment to the Land Reforms Act,1961, which is 'against' interests of the small and medium farmers as even a non-agriculturist can purchase agriculture land, thus giving an opportunity to the rich people to 'exploit' illiterate farmers and purchase their land and use it for some other purpose after some time.

Kasaragod, April 9: After Supreme Court intervened and settled the Border issue with Karnataka authorities who had consented to allow the critically-ill patients from in and around Kasaragod and nearby areas to cross over to nearby Mangalore for getting urgent and critical care treatment, the Karnataka authorities is alleged to continue to be hostile either by blocking way ahead or turning a deaf ear to the patients reaching there.

It was on Wednesday onwards that the check post at Thalapadi near here on the Kozhikode-Mangalore National Highway was opened for the critically-ill patients to cross over to Mangalore hospitals for medical treatment.

However, reports reaching here said two out of the three critically-ill patients, who made it to Mangalore were allegedly ill-treated or given no treatment forcing them to return back to Kerala.

Hosapete, Jan 6: Tension prevailed at Chalavadikeri here on Monday as residents prevented BJP leaders and workers from entering the locality for propaganda on Citizenship (Amendment) Act and shouted slogans against them.

On receipt of the information about the arrival of the BJP leaders, the residents of the locality gathered at the entrance of the lane and displayed black flag besides shouting slogan-go back, go back.

The people told the BJP workers not enter their vicinity when the workers stated them that they will distribute pamphlets only.

The police who arrived at the spot are trying their best to pacify the irate locals. More number of people belonging to Muslim and Dalit communities are residing in the area.
