Bengaluru, Oct 14: A senior Muslim cleric has urged the Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah to take necessary steps to protect the interests of Muslim community in the state.

muslimShafi Sa'adi, state president of Sunni Students Federation, on Thursday called on the CM along with CM Ibrahim, deputy chairman of the state planning board in Bengaluru and discussed some of the problems faced by the community.

The cleric alleged that even though cow vigilantes belonging to right wing groups targeting innocent Muslims across the state, the police were going soft on the culprits and harassing the victims.

He said that even though the police arrest those who indulge in violence against Muslims, they register bailable and petty cases against the accused. On the other hand the police don't miss any chance to harass Muslims, he said.

“Several complaints have been lodged in various police stations in the state in connection with the derogatory social media posts against Prophet Muhammad. However, the police have not taken any serious action in this regard,” he alleged.

He also invited the CM to participate in the Muslim Jamath convention to be held on November 2 in Kodagu under the leadership and guidance of A P Aboobacker Musliyar Kanthapuram, General Secretary of the All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama.
