Koppa, Sept 8: Various organisations have lodged a police complaint against Sringeri MLA D N Jeevaraj of the BJP for his controversial remarks with regard to journalist Gauri Lankesh’s murder.

After flagging of the ‘Mangaluru Chalo’ rally taken out by the BJP Yuva Morcha in Koppa on Wednesday, the MLA had publicly said that Gauri wouldn’t have been murdered had she not used the words ‘Cheddigala Maaranahoma’ (genocide of RSS workers) in her tabloid “Gauri Lankesh Patrike.”

Taluk Raitha Sangha president Navin Karuvane has filed a complaint with the police to examine the evidence and initiate action against the MLA. He suspects that Jeevaraj might be behind the murder of Gauri as he held a grudge against her after the details of corruption during his tenure as Food and Civil Supplies minister in the BJP government was exposed by her paper.

Koppa Station inspector D N Kumar said that the complaint will be forwarded to the Bengaluru police where a case has been registered in connection with Gauri’s murder.

Congress leaders H S Inesh, Nuggi Manjunath and Vijaykumar were present when the complaint was lodged.

Meanwhile, Jeevaraj said that he had used some words in his speech during the bike rally in haste and there was no bad intention behind it.

What does his statement mean?: CM

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday took a swipe at BJP MLA D N Jeevaraj for his statements pertaining to Gauri Lankesh's murder.

Reacting to the BJP lawmaker's statement, Siddaramaiah said, “What does Jeevaraj’s statement mean? Does this not indicate who was behind her murder?” he said, reports

He said that as he was running short of time during the programme, he had jumbled up the words.

“During the Congress regime, 11 Hindu activists have been murdered. Gauri Lankesh should have pressured the chief minister to arrest those who are responsible for these murders. What I meant was Gauri would not have been killed if the murderers of M M Kalburgi and other activists had been nabbed. Gauri’s death has pained me too,” he added.
