Udupi, Nov 24: A case has been registered at the Udupi Town Police Station following an alleged derogatory Facebook post against Vishvesha Tirtha Swami, the chief pontiff of Pejawar mutt.

A complaint was registered by Ratna Kumar, General Secretary of the Paryayotsava Swagata Samiti, at the police station.

Police sources said that a group of persons had posted a message on Facebook stating that the Babri mosque would be built at Ayodhya, the day the Pejawar seer died.

The post also had derogatory and defamatory remarks against the seer. Based on the complaint, the case was registered under Sections 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code. Investigation is on, the police said.

Superintendent of Police K. Annamalai said that the district police would seek the help of Cyber Crime Division of Bengaluru in the case.

The post surfaced after the seer said, at a condolence meet organised by the district VHP on Sunday, that constructing Ram Mandir in Ayodhya would be the real tribute to the late VHP leader Ashok Singhal. The seer also had justified demolition of Babri masjid.

Earlier, a delegation of the samiti met Mr. Annamalai and submitted a memorandum, urging him to take legal action against social media platforms or persons who were posting such messages. Raghavendra Acharya, working president of the samiti, and Raghuram Acharya, Dewan of Pejawar Mutt, were present.

When i see brainwashed and confused muslims putting comments against seer, i can say onething. Maybe you can call yourself literate, but cannot say common sense is guranteed with education.
