Poll code: Rs 16.65 lakh cash seized in seven cases so far in Udupi dist

Udupi, Mar 30: Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Deputy Commissioner, said on Friday that as many as seven cases had been filed, and Rs. 16,65,810 in cash had been seized in Udupi district after the model code of conduct came into force for the Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to presspersons here, Ms. Korlapati said that of the Rs. 16.65 lakh seized, an amount of Rs. 3.25 lakh was returned in one case after investigation. Of the 42 cases registered on the C-Vigil app, 32 had been disposed of, while the remaining were dummy cases.

The Excise Department had seized 15,580 litres of liquor, while the Police Department had seized 2,520 litres of liquor.

Bengaluru, Jul 13: In an attempt to avoid the ugly scene of migrant workers walking to their native places due to the current week-long lockdown imposed in the state, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is running 1,600 additional buses on Monday and Tuesday to help them return safely.

The KSRTC has already run 249 additional buses from the State capital and has so far ferried 6,641 passengers and 231 buses have been booked.

The KSRTC appealed to the public not to panic as additional buses have been deployed. "After ensuring social distance and conducting thermal screening, passengers will be allowed to travel. It has already been planned to operate additional buses," the corporation stated in a press release here.

Mangalore, Jan 12: Thieves reportedly stole around 70,000 cash from a MESCOM ATP machine located at Chembugudde in Thokkottu, Police said here on Sunday.

Police said that the theft took place in the MESCOM sub-division office at Chembugudde. It was said that the thieves broke open the room where the MESCOM customers bill payment machine was located and stole 70,000 rupees cash from the ATP machine.

This machine had nine lakh rupees cash. The amount was reported to have been transferred at around 1500 hrs on Saturday.

Bengaluru, Aug 7: Dr Mohammed Yusuf, chairperson of the Karnataka State Board of Auqaf, passed away at a private hospital in the city today following a brief illness. He was 74.

Dr Yusuf was an industrialist and was known for his philanthropic activities. 

A veterinarian, Dr Yusuf had quit the government job and set up business in Bengaluru and Dubai decades ago and has earned considerable success.

He was re-elected as Board of Auqaf chief in January this year. He had held the post more than once in the past. 

He will be buried at the graveyard near Masjid-e-Muzammil which was built by himself at Govindapura, source said.
