Polls: Rahul, Amit Shah to tour north Karnataka

Bengaluru Feb 24: The presidents of two national parties - Rahul Gandhi of the Congress and Amit Shah of the BJP will be touring north Karnataka districts from Saturday as part of their parties' election campaign.

Rahul will commence his second leg of Janaashirvaada Yatra from Belagavi. He will be touring Belagavi, Vijayapura and Dharwad districts for three days till February 26.

Shah is scheduled to arrive in Karnataka on Saturday evening. He will tour Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Vijayapura and Bidar districts on February 25 and 26.

Bengaluru, May 12: About 101 labourers bound for Rajasthan from Bengaluru in a goods truck were detained near a border Checkpost at Hirebagewadi village in Belagavi taluk on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway and have been sent into institutional quarantine on Tuesday.

Police said that the Labourers comprising of men, women and children had been travelling towards Rajasthan in a goods truck without permission from Karnataka and even from their home State Rajasthan.

In the morning hours, police and other department personnel manning the check post near...check post near Hirebagewadi detained them.

Bengaluru, Jul 29: Schools will remain closed and are expected to be opened in the month of August or September in the view of rising COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, said S Suresh Kumar, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education and Sakala of Karnataka on Tuesday.

Speaking on the issue, Kumar said, "Schools would not open for the time being. The children will be taught through media."

"The state is also working on the new schemes to improve the learning process for the students," he added.

As many as 5,536 new COVID-19 cases and 102 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Tuesday, according to the State Health Department.

The total number of positive cases in the state stands at 1,07,001 including 64,434 active cases, 40,504 discharges and 2,055 deaths.

Udupi, Jan 17: Six fishermen were rescued by members of another fishing boat after their boat capsized off Gangolli coast in the District recently.

Police on Friday said that the fishing boat, belonging to Jayalakshmi of Kodi Kanyana, had set sail from Malpe towards Gangolli on the night of January 12. On Wednesday (Jan 15) the vessel’s hull got damaged and water began gushing in.
