Polls: Rahul, Amit Shah to tour north Karnataka

Bengaluru Feb 24: The presidents of two national parties - Rahul Gandhi of the Congress and Amit Shah of the BJP will be touring north Karnataka districts from Saturday as part of their parties' election campaign.

Rahul will commence his second leg of Janaashirvaada Yatra from Belagavi. He will be touring Belagavi, Vijayapura and Dharwad districts for three days till February 26.

Shah is scheduled to arrive in Karnataka on Saturday evening. He will tour Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Vijayapura and Bidar districts on February 25 and 26.

Mangaluru expat Mohammed Kana passes away in Saudi Arabia

Mangaluru, May 15: Mohammed Kana, son of late Ismail Kana and grandson of late Dr M S Bapanad Mulki passed away in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia due to heart attack on Thursday. He was 57.

Hailing from Mangaluru, Mohammed Kana was working in Saudi Arabia for past 30 years. He is survived by his wife, son and a daughter.

He was involved in various social and welfare activities in India and Saudi Arabia. His tragic demise has left huge vacuum in his family and community at large.

Not sought imposing ban on flights from 5 states, clarifies Karnataka govt

Bengaluru, May 29: The Karnataka government clarified on Thursday that it has not sought for imposing a ban on flights emanating from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

The domestic air travel was resumed in several parts of the country on May 25.

The state government also said that it has appealed to the Civil Aviation Ministry to take steps to lessen the incoming air traffic.

"If there is a huge turn out at a short span of time, there may not be adequate quarantine facilities," said the state government.

A total of 115 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Karnataka, taking the total number of cases to 2,533.

Expert team in Mangaluru to study reason for spurt in covid-19 deaths

Mangaluru, Jul 17: An expert team from Bengaluru has arrived here on Friday to study the factors that have led to the sudden spurt in death due to Covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka in the recent past.

The team has arrived following a request made by the district administration. The team comprising three experts has already held talks with specialist Doctors, according to official sources.

It will examine the reports on the treatment provided to the patients who have succumbed to the infection and will submit a report citing reasons for the increase in deaths, the sources added.
