Polls: Rahul, Amit Shah to tour north Karnataka

Bengaluru Feb 24: The presidents of two national parties - Rahul Gandhi of the Congress and Amit Shah of the BJP will be touring north Karnataka districts from Saturday as part of their parties' election campaign.

Rahul will commence his second leg of Janaashirvaada Yatra from Belagavi. He will be touring Belagavi, Vijayapura and Dharwad districts for three days till February 26.

Shah is scheduled to arrive in Karnataka on Saturday evening. He will tour Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Vijayapura and Bidar districts on February 25 and 26.

Sitar exponent Hameed Khan passes away at 69

Dharwad, Jan 5: Hameed Khan, a noted sitar exponent and descendant of renowned sitarist Ustad Rahimat Khan, passed away at his residence here on Saturday night.

He was 69 and survived by wife Fareeda, son Mohsin Khan (a musician) and daughter Arma Khan (an artist).

Hameed Khan taught sitar at Karnatak University’s college of music and also at the family-run music school ‘Bharateeya Sangeeta Vidyalaya’. Several of his disciples who were foreign nationals helped him establish ‘Kalakeri Sangeet Vidyalaya’ at Kalakeri village near Dharwad, which provides music lessons to the deprived.

Four labourers from Kerala held while entering Karnataka via forest

Madikeri, Apr 27: Four labourers, who were travelling to Kerala via Makutta on foot, were stopped by Karnataka Forest Department officials and handed over to police.

Police said on Monday that the labourers identified as Anish, Radhakrishna, Shrinil and Prabhakar, who were working in the Coffee plantations in Chembellur and Ontiyangadi. As the roads to Kerala were sealed following lockdown, they were held up in the district.

The forest guards, who spotted them walking through the forest area, brought them back to the town as per the directions of the higher officials last evening. DCF Shivashankar, ACF Konerira Roshni and Ranger Arun Kumar were present.
