Polls: Rs 32L cash seized

Bengaluru, Apr 7: The election officials and police on Friday seized a total of Rs 32.90 lakh unaccounted for money at several places across the state.

An amount of Rs 11.83 lakh was seized from four lorry drivers in Terdal, while Rs 9.96 lakh, which was   being transported in a KSRTC bus was confiscated near Komaranahalli checkpost in Hoovinahadagali taluk.

A sum of Rs 3 lakh was found in the car of Raichur range forest officer Raghavendra on Thursday night. "The officer told us that the cash belongs to the department, but he had no documents. The cash will be returned if he submits appropriate documents," said Assistant Commissioner Gargi Jain.

Another Rs 3 lakh was seized from two Pune-based persons who were transporting the cash in a car, near Dundur checkpost in Gadag taluk. The election officials seized Rs 3 lakh which was being transported without any document in Afzalpur taluk. Similarly, Rs 1.90 lakh was seized in two separate incidents near Shahpur, Yadgir district.

Belagavi, Jan 16: Six Poachers were arrested in two different cases at Gollahalli forest range in Kittur section in the district on Thursday.

The arrested were identified as Bharmesh alias Bharmappa Hanumant Bhajantri, Mallesh Hanumant Bhajantri residents of Budanakatti in Bailahongal Taluk.

Another alleged accused Yuvraj Basappa Bhajantri managed to escape.

Bengaluru, Apr 6: Popular Kannada comedy actor Prakash, popularly known as Bullet Prakash in the film industry, died due to multi-organ failure at a private hospital in the City on Monday.

He was 44.

He is survived by wife, one son and a daughter.

Mandya, Apr 3: Following the lock down in the country, people habit ventured into Liquor bottles worth several lakhs of rupees have been stolen at two places in the district.

Miscreants targeted a wine store at Chikka Mandya on the outskirts of the town in the early hours and also made away with the stock from a wine store near Hadly Circle in Malavalli town late night on Thursday. The incidents came to light on Friday.

A window was broken open at Chikka Mandya store and a wall was drilled at Malavalli store to take away the cartons, the police said.
