Prakash Rai obliquely urges Congress not to field candidate against him

Bengaluru, Jan 18: Officially announcing his decision to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Bengaluru Central, multi-lingual actor Prakash Raj aka Prakash Rai today at a press conference here obliquely urged Congress to support him by not fielding any candidate.

Replying to a question whether he would divide secular votes by stealing the votes of Congress in the minority dominated constituency, the actor-cum-activist said the party can come and support him.

He said he will go to the people asking what they want and then prepare the manifesto in the coming days. “If the ‘Mahaghatbhandan’ is fighting against the communal forces, then I am also part of it,” he added.

He said that he has come back home and wants to contest from the place where he was born, went to school, college and took the plunge into the theatre and then to movies.

“It is time for me to give back to the people. Hence want to represent “people’s voice” in the parliament. All this while, elections were fought on the basis of caste and money power, I want to fight for the people,” he said.

Shivamogga, Feb 6: A youth, who allegedly uploaded pornography and inappropriate videos of children on social media, was arrested by the district CEN police after a tip-off from the CyberTipline.

The accused is a resident of Sorab taluk and is said to be below 18 years. He uploaded the objectionable content during April and May last year. He was traced based on the IP address of his computer and the mobile call records shared by the investigating agencies.

He was arrested in January under the provisions of the Information Technology Act 2000 and sent to judicial custody, said police sources.

Mangaluru, Apr 12: A 70-year-old woman who tested positive for COVID-19 got discharged from a hospital here on Sunday after she recovered from the novel coronavirus, said Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, Sindu B Rupesh.

Seven other patients have also recovered and discharged in Dakshina Kannada till date. Total number of active cases in the district has decreased to 5 now.

As many as 232 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Karnataka till date.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India on Sunday climbed to 8447, including 764 cured and discharged, 1 migrated and 273 deaths, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Bengaluru, May 2: JDS leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy accused the Mandya district administration of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the district and not quarantining 7,000 labourers who arrived here from Mumbai.

"As we know that 16,000 labourers from Mandya were working in Mumbai, out of which 7,000 people have arrived in the district. However, none of them was quarantined properly which is a violation of COVID-19 lockdown," Kumaraswamy told reporters here on Friday.

He claimed the district administration has shown "gross negligence" in their duty in following the procedure of COVID-19 as "one COVID-19 patient's dead body which was brought here from Mumbai has led to more cases in the district and those who accompanied the body have also tested positive for the virus."

Kumaraswamy appealed to the state government to strictly maintain lockdown norms and do not allow any relaxations in view of the rise in COVID-19 cases, stating that "any kind of relaxation could lead to a huge disaster."
