Bengaluru, Nov 23: Multi-lingual actor and activist Prakash Raj has slapped a legal notice on BJP leader and Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha for making defamatory statements against him on social media. The actor has also launched a campaign on social media with hashtag #TrollVandalism.

The artist termed the BJP leader as an important head of troll vandalism and added: "Simha posted statements terming me as a villain in real life and claimed I was running behind a dancer when my wife was grieving the death of our five-year-son. He stated that I change my name and identity according to my convenience. These posts have deeply hurt me. I decided to slap a legal notice on him as there should be an end to such trolls," Raj told reporters on Thursday.

"Simha is a serial offender. He even made derogatory remarks when late H S Mahadeva Prasad's wife Geetha contested for by-election to Gundlupet Assembly constituency. His statements were responsible for the defeat of his party's candidate," he said.

Prakash Raj clarified that he didn't want any money from the saffronist MP as compensation.

"He should apologise in public for his posts. He should confess that he committed a mistake and remove posts from all his social media accounts," he said.

"I will resort to criminal action against Simha if he doesn't respond to my notice," the actor stated.

To a question, Raj clarified: "It's a notice by an individual against an individual. I am not targeting any political party, group or leader."

"People like Simha can't get away with such acts. Somebody should bell the cat and I've decided to bell it," he added.

The actor stated that trolling was common in all political parties and groups. Trolling influenced, instigated and provocated innocent people, and a movement was needed against such activities.

Regarding his criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the actor said:"I've questioned Modi for being silent on his supporters indulging in troll vandalism."

On controversy surrounding Hindi movie Padmavati, he said: "Everybody has a right to protest, but I am concerned about the way in which protests are being organised. Statements like cutting the nose, beheading artistes and chopping of a finger for pointing at Modi are terrifying."

"About four states have banned release and screening of Padmavati before the Supreme Court can take a call on the issue. Even challenging the Supreme Court is a dangerous development," he said.

Prakash Raj said he wasn't terrorized by such trolls, but wanted to be a voice for those who were victims of troll vandalism.

New Delhi, Feb 29: The arsonists, who were allegedly hired by the pro-CAA politicians in Delhi to unleash violence against Muslims, did not even spare the residence of Border Security Force personnel Mohammed Anees.

While the jawan, who has spent three years guarding the borders along Jammu and Kashmir, had hoped that his job profile mentioned on the nameplate hung outside their two-storey house would discourage the vandals, he was proved wrong.

The nameplate on house number 76 in Khas Khajuri Gali clearly mentioned it was the property of a security force personnel who protects India’s borders from foreign invasions. Yet, it was burned down on the afternoon of February 25.

First, the ruthless goons set the vehicles parked outside the jawan’s house on fire, then they torched his home. Stones were also pelted at his house amid slogans of “idhar aa Pakistani, tujhe naagarikta dete hai” (Come here Pakistani, get your citizenship).

Apart from Anees, his father Mohammed Moonis, 55, uncle Mohd Ahmed, 59, and 18-year-old cousin Niha Parveen were in the house. Sensing what was about to go down next, they all escaped from the house, and were helped by paramilitary troops.

Charred remains of the house now stand where the house was till three days ago. In the two lanes of Khajuri Khas near Anees’s house, 35 houses were set on fire.

The loss suffered by the BSF soldier’s family was perhaps greater as they had kept all their life’s savings inside: two weddings in the family were to take place in the next three months.

Niha Parveen was to get married in April and Anees himself was to get married the following month. “All the things we collected all our life, jewellery – two gold necklaces, silver jewellery, it is all gone,” the family said.

“We used to buy jewellery on instalments… used to give money every month and collected this jewellery,” they said. Rs 3 lakh in cash for the wedding arrangements also got burnt along with other valuables and all their belongings.

Khajuri Khas is a Hindu-majority area, but Anees’s family says no neighbour of theirs was involved in the attack. “People came from outside.” Instead, their Hindu neighbours were asking the rioters to leave. They requested them to leave and helped douse the vehicles on fire.

Bantwal, Feb 2: A 45-year-old man was found murdered in a parked Innova car at Shantinagar near Nagri in Sajipa Munnur in Bantwal taluk today.

The deceased has been identified as Tasleem, a native of Kerala who was wanted in a few criminal cases. He was, according to reports, a member of Kerala's notorious Ziya.

Tasleem was an accused in Kalia Rafiq murder in Ullal (2017). He was arrested last year in connection with a jewellery store robbery case registered in Mangaluru North police station and was sent to Kalaburagi prison. He was later released on bail.

The car had been parked at the spot since morning. The locals who grew suspicious at this informed the police. Circle inspector T D Nagaraj and other officers conducted spot investigation.
